Re: [BVARC] Off topic: weird music on 43.54 MHz

2023-07-05 Thread John Denison via BVARC

I'm sure this is unrelated, but I found it on Wikipedia:

In Italy 375-line television transmissions were undertaken by Arturo
Castellani ^[8]

^[9]

^[10]

in 1937,^[11]

with daily broadcasts from Rome ,
between 6pm and 9:30pm on 6.9 meters (43.45 MHz) with a power of 2 kW.

I wonder if someone revived an old transmitter and is using it for music
or Muzak.

Since it is music, do you concurrently hear it on any commercial
broadcast frequency?

Also could it be a harmonic or derived from mixing with an
intermediate frequency?

I’m not in the market, but fully functional ts-850s sold in the last 30 days on
ebay for $350-$550. Maybe that helps you know how to price your non-functional

The 850 is a 160 through 10 rig, all mode, 100 watt. It is surface mount

Make me a reasonable offer please.

[BVARC] Kenwood TS 850S

2023-07-05 Thread john Parmalee via BVARC

Greetings all,

I have acquired a Kenwood TS 850S transceiver I would like to pass it on as
parts or possibly you repaired and made new to find more DX.

This was a high-end rig in it’s day. All solid state. surface mount.

160 through 10 meters 100 watts all mode.

I have a full set of documents including a service manual.

I think the problem is a shorted cap across the 5v supply.  The 7v supply which
supplies the display is good.

2023-07-05 Thread Mike Hardwick via BVARC
A couple of questions:

What kind of receiver are you using?
Is the receiver set for wide FM or narrow?
What kind of antenna?
How tall is the antenna?
If directional, what is the azimuth?
Last but not least, what part of Houston do you live in?
