[cayugabirds-l] Danby Osprey?
In our Danby Area News a local resident reported sighting 2 Osprey in Danby on Feb 3rd. Since this is about 7 weeks earlier than then mean spring arrival date in the Cayuga Bird Club list of same, I question the report's veracity. The individual claimed to have immediately referred to his field guide for a positive ID. I am curioius what other bird he might have seen - perhaps a Rough-leg? Here is a link to the report - it's on pg. 8 at bottom: http://town.danby.ny.us/DanbyNews/DAN_201103.pdf -- asher -Never play it the same way once. -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html 3) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
Re: [cayugabirds-l] Redpolls - still lots!
I've also had a steady stream of Common Redpolls at my feeds for the past 3 weeks with flocks ranging from 10-60 birds. I have seen several possible Hoarys among them, but as Laura so aptly described, they move about too quickly for a positive ID. Redpolls on the tube feeds tend to linger longer, but all the Hoary candidates have been on the ground, silo feeder, and bushes. I still haven't identified a Hoary among the birds - it's hard because they are constantly flying up to the trees, then raining down again, then up again before I can get a good look. It's a truly amazing sight. In addition to covering the feeders, they are scattered all over the snow on the ground. [cayugabirds-l] Hoary Redpolls
Hello all, Today there were ~150 COMMON REDPOLLS with 2 and maybe 3 HOARY REDPOLLS and ~20 American Goldfinches here at the house in Scott. There was a definite FEMALE HOARY REDPOLL and an IMMATURE FEMALE HOARY REDPOLL present. A third immature Hoary looked good, but it took off before I could get enough for a confirmation. cheers, Matt Young myhosting.com - Premium Microsoft® Windows® and Linux web and application hosting - http://link.myhosting.com/myhosting -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html 3) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
