[cayugabirds-l] Palm Warbler Swan Pen
I just returned from a walk around the swan pen at Stewart Park. There was a Palm Warbler foraging and singing (!) near the boathouse. [cayugabirds-l] Three Ruby Crowned Kinglets
Yesterday, in the vacant lot off of Bomax Road, my husband and I saw three RUBY CROWNED KINGLETS. They were foraging in the brush by a little stream near the tree line that separates the lot from Northwood Apartments. Mary E. [cayugabirds-l] RFI: Golden-crowned Kinglet/Barred Owl
Hi everyone, One of my goal birds to photograph this spring is Golden-crowned Kinglet. I know a couple of traditional spots locally, but if anyone has any local leads on where to find one consistently I'd really appreciate hearing about it. Ditto for Barred Owl. In fact, I'd appreciate information about ANY possible photo opportunities in the area, and as an incentive I offer a lovely print of the subject if the project proves successful. Thanks so much to the many people who've helped me out in the past. Marie (ps.through my outdoor speaker I can hear my lingering American Tree Sparrow singing as I write!) RE:[cayugabirds-l] Spotted Sandpiper @ Stewart Park; + ~25 Bonaparte's Gulls.
Folks who're seeing the Bonaparte's Gulls: are they in breeding plumage? still changing? I'm the photo editor for the bird club's upcoming book about birding sites in the basin, in which we include small photos of some typical birds for each site. I have the option of choosing a Boney in breeding or non-breeding plumage, so I wanted some input. Scoping from East Shore Park around 7 AM I saw a flock of about 20 Bonarparte's Gulls staged in a line off the west shore north of the lighthouse. I saw a few more stragglers. None of them lingered long in the water, soon taking off to the north. There were Scaup, Bufflehead, and Common Mergansers scattered about as well. I hurried over to Stewart Park to try to get a better look at the gulls. I parked in front of the tennis courts and immediately got distracted by what looked like a Spotted Sandpiper flying along the shore. I verified this id when I saw it again spotted and bobbing while working its way east on the thick carpet of wrack. Also heard a fish crow before I left. Re: [cayugabirds-l] Cliff Swallow, Stewart Park
I stopped at the Swan Pen late today to check out the action. I found the CLIFF SWALLOW and the other assortment Jay posted. The TREE SWALLOWS were up to ~160 individuals. I also enjoyed the nice close viewing with only light rain. The biggest surprise was my first singing PALM WARBLER. Beautiful. I'm glad he was still in musical form from this morning.
