2014-05-19 Thread Chris Lajewski
May 22, Thursday, 6:30 PM-9:00 PM
Under the Shadow of the Moon Winery Bird Walk

Join the Montezuma Audubon Center Staff at White Springs Winery in Geneva for
wine tastings and a bird
watching walk. During this walk we will look for birds heading to their evening
roosting sites and we’ll use these sightings to contribute to a global
scientific project. Audubon Educators
will show participants how to use the Merlin Birding App, as well as
eBird, which are part of Cornell University’s Lab of Ornithology’s
ongoing citizen science projects. Don’t have a smart phone or tablet?
Don’t worry! Anyone can be part of these projects, join us and we’ll
show you how. After our walk, we will enjoy a select tasting of White
Springs wines, including the oh so fresh and fruity Moon Shadow
Riesling, paired with local artisan cheeses! Fee: $15/ person call White
Springs Winery at (315) 781-9463 to register.

[cayugabirds-l] Nighthawks

2014-05-19 Thread Geo Kloppel
Out in the yard just now when I heard the peent and looked up to see a Common
Nighthawk high overhead. It moved off to the north, and 3 minutes later
another (or the same) went over, also peenting. Made my day!

[cayugabirds-l] Clay-colored/Chipping Sparrows

2014-05-19 Thread Matthew A. Young
Hi all,

A couple days late to the discussion, but one of the two years Clay-colored
Sparrow showed up at the xmas tree plantation on Lick Street Summerhill, I
witnessed the bird copulating with a Chipping Sparrow. The other year it seemed
to be an unmated bird. I think they were present there in 2005 and again in
2011 or 2012.

cheers,

Matt Young
