[cayugabirds-l] OFF TOPIC: Canon Birding Lens
I am selling my Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens that I use for bird photography. I know many birders on this list are into photography, so I thought I would put this out there to the group. If anyone is interested, please contact me off list. Thanks. [cayugabirds-l] Active Eagle Nest Observations
Hi Fellow birders. Doug Cameon and I visited 8 area eagle nests in the northern Cayuga Lake Basintoday (3/22/16) to see who was at home and I'd like to share our results: Adult Eagles were observed on the following nests (I assume incubating eggs): Fisher Rd. Armitage Rd. Rt 31/Behind and to the right of the Potato barn Maple Island on MNWR Mud Lock Great Gully/south of Union Springs Aurora Nest at the mouth of Paine's creek NO eagles were observed at the Packwood rd. nest An Osprey was observed flying to, and landing on a nest/platform in the village of CayugaWater St. off of Rt. 90 A Red Tail Hawk was observed on the nest situated in row of trees between Johnson Rd. and Fort Hill Rd.(I believe it is technically in the town of Phelps, but may be wrong on that account). Among various other species we observed a meadowlark in the huge field/meadow alongside the LongPoint Winery. [cayugabirds-l] Tompkins County gulls
All, As some of you may have witnessed or noticed from eBird reports, gull numbers and diversity around the south end of the lake are high this past week. Most striking is the number of LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, with 13+ seen along the shoreline at Stewart Park and a high count this morning at the compost piles of over 30 individuals, mostly adults but with a scattering of other plumages. Up to six ICELAND GULLS of various plumages (adults and immatures) and likely the same adult GLAUCOUS GULL are also around. This morning Ian Davies found a likely first-cycle THAYER'S GULL at the compost piles. A Yellow-legged Gull look-alike, apparently a HERRING x LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL hybrid, as well as at least one apparent NELSON'S GULL (Herring x Glaucous) have also been seen at the compost over the last few days. I haven't seen a report of the Herring x Great Black-backed since the first of the month. [cayugabirds-l] Wed trip to Fair Haven/Southwick
Rueben Stoltzfus is planning a birding trip on Wednesday March 23 (tomorrow) and is inviting anyone to join him. He hopes to cover the SR 104 corridor from Fair Haven to Southwick Beach and other points along the way. He has two construction jobs to bid on in the area but otherwise this is an all day birding trip. If you are interested in going, please call him at (607) 869-9466 and leave a message with his answering service.
