No. we have not done that. Perhaps it's time to ask the Lab of O if that can be
arranged. Can we discuss it at the meeting?

RE: [cayugabirds-l] Cayuga Bird Club Meeting- October 10

2016-10-07 Thread Jody W Enck
Hello Cayuga Birders,

Just to follow-up on Laura’s message about the Cayuga Bird Club meeting Monday
night…

This meeting is our annual meeting where we hold officer elections. Please see
the most recent newsletter on our website at
www.cayugabirdclub.org for the slate of
candidates and their profiles. All members who have paid their dues this fall
are eligible to vote at the meeting.

One more reminder: the Club is exploring the idea of establishing sister
birding clubs between here in North America and clubs in Central America where
some of “our” birds of summer spend most of the year (up to seven months there,
compared to maybe three or so here on the breeding grounds. I leave Tuesday
for Honduras to meet with birding clubs there to discuss this idea. Please
follow along on my blog
www.modelbirder.blogspot.com as I
chronicle this journey. Plus, it’s not too late to support my in-country
travel when I am in Honduras through my campaign at
www.gofundme.com/2hra68nv.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the meeting Monday night.

[cayugabirds-l] Sparrow walks at Cornell Community Gardens this weekend

2016-10-07 Thread Mark Chao
On Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9, I’ll lead bird walks at the
Cornell Community Gardens on Freese Road. Both walks will start at 8:30 AM
and last for about 90 minutes. This site is one of the best in the area
for its abundance of migrant sparrows and other field birds, as well as its
excellent viewing conditions. Highlights from this week include one
Grasshopper Sparrow, dozens of Song and Savannah Sparrows, a couple of
Lincoln’s (found regularly by others, only once in several attempts by me),
plus White-throated, White-crowned, Swamp, Chipping, many cooperative Palm
Warblers, and probably more that I haven’t heard about. This is also a
very good place for insects – countless grasshoppers, many bees, and
butterflies aplenty, plus a dazzling White-lined Sphinx Moth yesterday.

Please be prepared to walk among tall, wet weeds, on slippery, uneven
ground. Note also that Saturday morning’s weather forecast calls for
rain. I’ll go to the site even if it is raining hard, but we might decide
to quit early. If we do get completely rained out on Saturday morning, I
might announce an impromptu make-up walk on Saturday afternoon or Monday
morning.

Mark Chao
