[cayugabirds-l] red-throated loons, white-winged gull

Today was slow in the taxi business and I managed some office birding. 

>From East Shore Park I saw two different Red-throated Loons, a juvenile and a 
>non-breeding adult far from each other, plus a duo of female White-winged 
>Scoters and a separate single female Surf Scoter, and right next to the piling 
>cluster a duo of female Long-tailed Ducks. 

>From Stewart Park I scoped an immature white-winged gull on the red lighthouse 
>breakwater which I'm thinking was a large Iceland. It was large, about the 
>size of a nearby Herring Gull, but they would never pose for a good 
>comparison. It had a bicolored bill with the black being more than just the 
>tip. It had bright white wings contrasting with a buffier back. The head shape 
>did not look long, blocky and mean, nor did the bill look like a big cigar, so 
>I'm thinking it was not a Glaucous, but I'm open to persuasion. I wish I'd had 
>more time to study it, but dang, I had to work just then.
