[cayugabirds-l] Banded pigeon

2017-04-20 Thread W. Larry Hymes
I have a banded pigeon that's feeding in our yard. It has a yellow leg
band on the left leg and has gray feathers. Can't make out the number.
Anyone know about banded pigeons in Ithaca?

A number of people had Northern Parula today, so consider that, too.

Hi Karen,

Field Sparrow can give that impression, because its song too is delivered in
accelerando, sometimes even with a slight rise in pitch. If you have the
Audubon Birds app, you can compare Track #3 for both species to see what I mean.

[cayugabirds-l] FOY yard birds

2017-04-20 Thread Donna Lee Scott
In the fog here in yard a FOY RUBY CROWNED KINGLET foraging, singing & showing
his red crest;
I heard possibly a Black Throated Green Warbler but never got to see it.

WHITE THROATED SPARROWS singing "oh Canada Canada Canada" all around me, along
w/ usual regular feeder birds which include a large flock of A.GOLDFINCHES.
Along with burgeoning spring buds & flowers, it makes a great start to the day!

[cayugabirds-l] Cayuga Bird Club Derby Hill trip

2017-04-20 Thread Gladys Birdsall
Greetings,

This coming Sunday, the 23ed I will be leading a trip to Derby Hill Hawk
watch, located just north of Mexico, N.Y, on Lake Ontario. We will meet
at the north parking area at the Lab of Ornithology at 7 AM, to car pool.

We will plan to stop on the way for rest stop/food & drinks. Please
dress for the weather. Right "now" the chance of rain is fairly low.
Bring water and snacks or your own food. We will plan to return by 4 PM.

We are approaching the time period when Broadwing Hawk migration should
be peaking, and there can be a good variety of other
hawks/eagles/songbirds coming through. From the north lookout, one can
look out over Lake Ontario for waterfowl. It is always dependent on
the winds that day what might be seen.

Questions? Please Email me at g...@outlook.com or call 607-227-3970.

Good birding,

Gladys Birdsall
