[cayugabirds-l] Merlin nesting

2018-03-22 Thread John Confer
Information wanted, please.

During the last three years I have monitored Merlin nesting success near
Ithaca. Results show that Merlin have an unusual relationship with both Fish
Crow and American Crow in our region, and that nesting success is about 50%.

Many of these nests or areas where Merlin were calling were reported to me by
birders. I am very grateful for this help. Again this year, if you locate a
nest or calling Merlin, let me know off-line at confergoldw...@aol.com.

[cayugabirds-l] feeder birds

2018-03-22 Thread Asher Hockett
Continuing at our feeders are a small flock of Purple Finches, both sexes,
consuming black oil sunflower seeds, and a half dozen Pine Siskins on the
niger socks. This in addition to the goldfinches and juncos and doves in
profusion along with a few chickadees, nuthatches, and titmice.

Red-bellied, downy, hairy, and a lone female Pileated Woodpecker are eating
suet. The neighborhood ravens are getting talkative.

[cayugabirds-l] Mt Pleasant Rd Pine Siskins

2018-03-22 Thread Marie P. Read
My daily walk this morning took me farther west of the observatory than usual,
and where the utility cut crosses Mt Pleasant Rd I was excited to find a pair
of Pine Siskins at the top of a tree.
