I am advised that one CAN get out at Seneca Flats, but at the south end.
Unfortunately many folks get at the pull-off or wherever they see birds!!

 I agree, it is important to thank the Govinor.  Thank her via this webform or 
better yet, use social media 

ALSO Please take time to thank Carl Taylor, CEO of NYSEG they didn't have 
to do this, and much of the money from the sale would have gone to their 
shareholders... so them doing this instead is a big deal.  Write to him to say 
thanks at carl.tay...@avangrid.com
Last, and definitely not least, HUGE Thanks to our Assemblymember Anna Kelles - 
who made sure all our voices were heard by all the big wigs in Albany.

[cayugabirds-l] Seneca Flats Shorebirds

shorebird i.d. skills at the Refuge's Seneca Flats. The bird's are close,
you can get out of your car and there's a nice diversity of species to
examine: both yellowlegs, both dowitchers, pectoral sandpipers, stilt
sandpipers, semipalmated sandpipers, a few least sandpipers and even a
sanderling. I wouldn't be surprised to see a solitary sandpiper or two (we
had a few on the main pool). I think someone else has also recently posted
a white-rumped sandpiper as well.

I share this info with everyone because there are a lot of eyes out there while 
we're all birding! Please keep an eye out for Spotted Lanternflies- a really 
worrisome invasive species that's creeping into NY.

Audubon recently shared this article "Birds Are One Line of Defense Against

 so good news that some birds are eating them!
