Presented by Matt Gallo

Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM)

In-person: meet at Appleridge, 168 Miller St., Horseheads.

The Finger Lakes Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management
(FL-PRISM) was founded in 2013 at the Finger Lakes Institute at Hobart and
William Smith Colleges in Geneva. PRISM staff members and volunteers work to
control invasive species in a 17-county region through early detection and
rapid response. Matt will share up-to-date information about invasive species
and tell us how the PRISM program works for our region.

All are welcome to attend Chemung Valley Audubon events. Appleridge is
wheelchair accessible. Find more events at cvaudubon.org and on Facebook.

[cayugabirds-l] Ruby throated humming bird

2023-10-17 Thread Barbara Bauer Sadovnic
A male ruby throated humming bird visited our feeder this morning. I saw one
very briefly two days ago, but this one perched and sipped for a while.

At the same time our tulip tree was full of warblers, but I couldn’t identify
them.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Black Scoters, Myers Point

2023-10-17 Thread Matthew Young
A group of 10 Cornell students (part of a couple classes I teach in spring
and fall) and I had a flock of 17 Brant continuously circling at Stewart
Park this morning. There were also a few Ruddy Ducks, the female Surf
Scoter, a Lesser Scaup, 2 Ring-necked Ducks, Coots and more were seen as
well.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Waxwings

2023-10-17 Thread Dave Nutter
Agreed, Pokeweed berries are great bird food, as well as being beautiful
colorful plants. I have also had Swainson’s Thrush, Gray Catbird, Scarlet
Tanager, Red-eyed Vireo, and Northern Cardinal eating them.

[cayugabirds-l] Black Scoters, Myers Point

2023-10-17 Thread Jay McGowan
A flock of about 60 Black Scoters, a mix of males and females, is currently
out on the lake directly out from the spit at Myers Point, fairly distant
but giving reasonable scope views. A female type Surf and White-winged
scoter are also around the lighthouse area. Some Brant have flown by going
south, and a few were just reported at Stewart Park as well.
