[cayugabirds-l] Cackling Goose, Sapsucker Woods

2014-12-02 Thread Jay McGowan
A CACKLING GOOSE, first spotted by Jeff Gerbracht this morning, is still
present in the Canada flock on the open water outside the visitor center at
the Lab of Ornithology. It is mostly sleeping now but occasionally wakes up
and moves around.

[cayugabirds-l] Cackling Goose, Stewart Park

2014-10-04 Thread Jay McGowan
A CACKLING GOOSE just flew over us at the dock at Stewart Park. It was with
four Canadas on the water, then flew south but might still be in the area.
Other than that and a female Lesser Scaup, Stewart is quiet. Myers was
similarly quiet earlier.

[cayugabirds-l] Cackling Goose?

2014-03-26 Thread Greg

Hello,

Below is a link to a photo of what I believe is a Cackling Goose. Would
anyone be able to confirm it one way or the other? Not a local sighting
it's in Massachusetts

Thanks, Greg

RE: [cayugabirds-l] Cackling Goose?

2014-03-26 Thread Kevin J. McGowan
I'd vote no. It's hard to tell from the angle, but bill doesn't look stubby
and triangular enough. Cackling Geese generally lack the kink in the neck when
they graze on the ground, and this bird shows it. Size and proportions are not
reliable from these three photos.

Best,

Kevin

[cayugabirds-l] Cackling Goose at Sheldrake on Saturday

2012-01-29 Thread Stuart Krasnoff
Sorry for the late post. There were a lot geese (1000's) in the Sheldrake
area yesterday. At the park I saw two possible Cackling Geese. #1 looks a
bit less likely than #2 to me. Videos for vetting are posted:

Goose #2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-wKF8wwV1o

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvwFbpxRSaw

Goose #1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6G1OA2ajTM

Sheldrake also hosted 3 Red-breasted Mergansers, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye
and Mallard.

Judy Abrams reported seeing a Brown-headed Cowbird at 9045 Seneca St. in T'burg.

Best...Stuart

[cayugabirds-l] Cackling Goose in northeast Ithaca

2011-12-31 Thread Tom Schulenberg
It's not in the same league as a Ross's Goose, but at 14:00 this afternoon
there was at least one Cackling Goose with the large flock (ca 400
individuals) of Canada Geese in the field along Hanshaw Road, near the
mouth of Sapsucker Woods Road.

I hope that someone finds it tomorrow, between there and Stewart Park.

Good luck tomorrow, everybody.
