In the space of two hours I found a dead blue jay and starling in my yard. I could tell the starling hadn’t been doing well as it seemed unstable and not moving much on the ground. Then found it dead. I read about the mysterious illness impacting these birds with an epicenter near Washington, D.C. https://www.npr.org/local/305/2021/06/16/1007154493/blue-jays-grackles-other-birds-dying-from-mysterious-ailment
I wondered if this is impacting birds in NY? No signs of any injury or cat attack to the birds I found and the starling seemed to have some neurological issues. I buried both before I read about this. They are recommending taking down feeders and removing bird baths (I always keep mine clean) but I don’t want to do this if not necessary.
