I saw an Indigo Bunting at the feeder a few minutes ago. It flew off and
hasn't returned.
We're in the general Monkey Run South area, between the Monkey Run parking area

[cayugabirds-l] indigo bunting!

2021-05-09 Thread marsha kardon
Today we completed the trifecta of continuing rose-breasted grosbeaks and
Baltimore orioles, and finally, today, an indigo bunting at our feeders.
Because of bear sightings and feeder attacks in the neighborhood in the
last two weeks, we've been taking in our feeders in the evening and putting
them out in the morning. Lots of extra work, but definitely worth it to
see these beautiful birds, in addition to the more usual visitors, in our
backyard. Marsha Kardon

[cayugabirds-l] Indigo Bunting, Scarlet Tanager

2020-05-12 Thread Donna Lee Scott
My neighbor just to south reported a male Indigo Bunting was eating seed at her
deck rail 8 AM this morning.
My other neighbor just to the north went out in her driveway this morning and
saw a Scarlet Tanager in her lilac bush!

Unfortunately, I saw neither of these birds, but on my walk around Lansing
Station this afternoon I saw Yellow and Yellow-rumped warblers, B. orioles, and
a Brown Thrasher in my own yard when I returned. Plus many of the usual
suspects around here.
Many Baltimore Orioles and 2-3 Orchard Orioles continue in my yard! I have to
go shop for fruit and jelly for them, they go thru these so fast.

[cayugabirds-l] Indigo Bunting

2019-05-10 Thread Bill Roberts
FOY Indigo Bunting attempted to join the goldfinches on the thistle feeders
but was quickly rebuffed. I have yet to see his return. In addition some of
the regular diners include Baltimore Orioles, Brown Thrashers, Eastern
Starlings, Common Grackles, House Wrens, Carolina Wrens, Red-bellied
Woodpeckers, Chipping Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, etc. A
Great-crested Flycatcher also landed near the feeders.

In the adjacent woodlot there were Yellow Warblers, Yellow-rumped Warblers
and one Cape May Warbler.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Indigo bunting

2018-05-13 Thread Kathleen P Kramer
We’ve been fortunate, too! Here on Stonehaven Circle in Newfield, we have two
male Indigo Buntings coming regularly to our thistle feeder. They feed quite
amicably with the Goldfinches. Question: Is it common for two male Indigo
Buntings to occupy the same territory? We haven’t been watching carefully, but
we haven’t seen any females yet.

[cayugabirds-l] Indigo Bunting

2018-05-06 Thread Anne Hobbs
I have resisted “me too” messages for all my spring arrivals but just now, for
the first time ever, an Indigo Bunting showed up at the feeder in front of my
house. It was promptly chased away by the many goldfinches but it remained in
our bushes waiting its turn. I should add that I live in the woods which is
probably why I’ve never seen the bunting here.

[cayugabirds-l] Indigo Bunting

2017-05-03 Thread W. Larry Hymes
When I looked out our kitchen windows, I noticed a good-sized flock of
sparrows. As I proceeded to count their numbers, my eye picked up on a
"blue patch" in the grass. Turned out to be our foy INDIGO BUNTING.
Hope it sticks around for a little while. They typically pop in and
then pop out.

[cayugabirds-l] Indigo bunting and rose-breasted grosbeak

2015-05-04 Thread Naomi Brewer

At 7:30 a.m. this morning I watched a male Indigo Bunting at a sunflower
seed feeder near my house. He made several trips from nearby bushes.

On the other side of house, I soon after saw a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak

My Carolina Wrens are nesting already in the very old Christmas wreath on
the front porch and yesterday I watched them chasing a House

[cayugabirds-l] Indigo Bunting--better late than never

2011-06-24 Thread Kathy Strickland

An Indigo Bunting finally showed up in my yard yesterday. Was wondering if I'd
been abandoned this year. Heard in the morning and mid-day, but later went out
to listen with a couple piano students and it placed itself in great view so
both the kids and their parents got good looks. Don't know if there's a female
around.

The yard Blue Jays fledged (nest not seen but know it's somewhere near), and a
couple nestfulls of Chipping Sparrows. The Carolina Wren has started up again
after about 6 weeks of silence or absence.
