After whistling hopefully off an on in my yard since October, I finally got a response from a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL this evening around 11:45 PM. The snow had stopped and it was extremely quiet -- the distant reverberating toots were coming from the direction of Muriel St., possibly further to the west. I will try to make that my first bird of 2013, as I start the Ithaca Christmas Bird Count on Jan. 1.
