[cayugabirds-l] Upland sandpiper at Lott farm

2021-04-18 Thread Peter Saracino
Upland sandpiper found this morning by Dave Kennedy continues at Lott farm.
I tried around noonish from Martin Rd. but with no luck. Returned around
2:30 and a family member was on the property and gave permission to drive
the grounds. Found the bird way toward the back by the cut corn field. It
was feeding in the section closest to the crushed limestone driveway. At
one point it got up on a tall telephone pole and spread its wings and gave
that "strange" vocalization it is known for. I salute the courage and
endurance of this hemispheric traveler now back from the Argentine!

[cayugabirds-l] Upland sandpiper

2020-04-21 Thread Peter Saracino
Following Reuben's lead via Dave Nutter, I see 2 upland sandpipers on Lott
farm. Hanging together and one with a darker back. Returned from the
Argentine!
Beautiful birds!!
Be sure to ask permission. The lady in the office said she has removed the
phone number so you'll have to stop and ask.

[cayugabirds-l] Upland Sandpiper continues Broome County This morning

2018-04-20 Thread David Nicosia
The UPLAND SANDPIPER continues across the road in a field from 149 Owen
Hill Road in Lisle, NY. This was the original field it was found in
yesterday. The bird at times hunkers down and is hard to see. The location
I put on ebird is the exact spot we saw it. If you put the ebird map in
satellite view, you can clearly see the field that it frequents.

Here are two photos from this morning(more to come):

https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S44747917

We have determined that this is the first recorded Upland Sandpiper in
Broome Co in at least 20 years!

[cayugabirds-l] Upland Sandpiper Broome County

2018-04-19 Thread David Nicosia
Derek Green found an Upland Sandpiper this morning on Owen Hill Road in
Lisle, NY. The bird was refound again at around 230 pm by Kevin McGann at
183 Owen Hill Road at 42.3623,-76.0361
I imagine with north winds tonight and Friday and continued snow showers
the bird probably will stick around.

see https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S44716453 for some good photos by
Derek. This is the first "uppie" we have had in Broome co. in at least a
dozen years!

Nice to know they are still there. We've missed them the past few times,
including on the Big Day.

[cayugabirds-l] Upland sandpiper at Syracuse airport

2012-05-18 Thread Meena Haribal

Hi all,
I was in the plane on the way to Chicago sitting on runway when I saw an Upland
sp sitting on A10 marker nervously watching the plane. Once we moved it dove
into grass.
It was lovely view of all lakes some 20 miles from the plane including MNWR and
other interesting features

[cayugabirds-l] Upland Sandpiper: Etna, NY

2011-08-01 Thread Chris Tessaglia-Hymes
Just a quick note:

Saturday night, around 11:00pm, while doing some brief star-gazing from the
back yard, I was pleasantly surprised to hear the four-noted night flight
call of an Upland Sandpiper, as it passed overhead on its southward
migration. The distinct call heard was the bubbly Bweep-bweep-bweep-bweep!
call, infrequently heard during night migration through this part of
Upstate, NY.

Good birding!

Sincerely,
Chris T-H
