[cayugabirds-l] Warbling Vireo, Baltimore Oriole, Spotted Sandpiper
Along the trails by the ponds on my property this morning, were many species already reported (whew, lots of RBGR) but, such fun seeing a chatty little Spotted Sandpiper with background chorus of Warbling Vireos and several orioles. Spring is most definitely here! Happy birding all. evie -- *Evelyn Weinstein, LMSW* *376 Brooktondale Rd* *Brooktondale, NY 14817* *USA* *607.592.* -- (copy & paste any URL below, then modify any text "_DOT_" to a period ".") [cayugabirds-l] Warbling Vireo, Salt Point
Livia and I came across another out-of-season bird at Salt Point in Lansing this morning: a WARBLING VIREO! Considered late any time after September, this is quite a surprise. It seemed content enough, foraging actively in brushy areas on the point. We came across it four or five different times while walking the circuit. I found myself disappointed it was not a White-eyed or Bell's, but still cool to see a late individual like this. It seems like there could be a decent chance this bird is a vagrant of the western subspecies, but they are extremely challenging to differentiate in the field. [cayugabirds-l] Warbling Vireo at arboretum
Hi all, In my wanderings this morning, I cam across a Warbling Vireo newly arrived at the Cornell Plantations Arboretum, in a river birch at the end of the wooden bridge over the pond, the same spot where they have nested in the past. Later a second WAVI landed in a different tree, was joined by the first one...presume a pair. At the Niemi Road Research Ponds among the numerous Tree Swallows was a lone Cliff Swallow dipping into the water on the wing. Spring! Hi Carol, you wrote: > Anyone have any solutions to keep grackles away from the feeders? You know, finch feeders, feeders with adjustable spring loaded perches, etc. -Geo -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Warbling Vireo
I was out back early this morning and heard my Warbling Vireo singing. They nest down by the creek every year . Every year I get many White Crown Sparrows at my feeders when they are passing through, but none so far this year which is very alarming and disappointing to me. I've seen them in Skaneateles, but they've skipped me. I do have a Mockingbird which is a regular singer. I keep thinking that I'm hearing a Phoebe, but it's just one of the NOMO's many renditions. I should just sit and listen and write down the list of birds he mimics. Anyone have any solutions to keep grackles away from the feeders? Actually it's all blackbirds-RedWings, Grackles, and cowbirds? [cayugabirds-l] Warbling Vireo and RBG
This morning along E Miller Rd in Danby, I heard a Warbling Vireo vocalizing for the first time since late July. I also heard a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and an American Robin doing its "spring song". They all had that tentative, first-year-male-testing-out-the-song sound to them. Bird!
