When I was on the New York State Avian Records Committee I realized that there 
was no possible way to evaluate what people thought they saw with redpolls. 
Photos are the only hope. 

Even then, I have had a couple dozen carcasses from Alaska on the table in 
front of me and I wasn't sure what was what.

Come on Kevin, I have full confidence you can identify all 4 subspecies on 
the table or in the field. Mistakes can happen, but all 4 subspecies can be 
identified with practice. :)
