Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab 5A - BR2 - Help

2009-07-08 Thread Vik Malhi
For calls to 911 the path taken is:

RP =911 RL-Local Standard Local Route Group

The ³Local Route Group² setting configured in the calling party device pool
(HQ or BR1) is used to route this call. In the case of HQ we only ever want
to send 911 calls to the HQ gateway and never the GK trunk or the BR1
gateway. Hence we ONLY put the HQ SIP Trunk into RG-HQ which is used in the
above scenario. If we did place the GK-Trunk into RG-HQ then we could
potentially route calls (such as 911) unintentionally through the GK which
would make no sense.

For calls to 3xxx the path taken is:

RP-3xxx RL-GK RG-GK

This is a completely separate Route Pattern that does not point to RL-Local
but instead to a brand new Route List. We place the GK-Trunk into a
different RG called RG-GK and we place this new RG into the newly created
RL.

Hope it makes some sense.

Hi Vik,

Thanks for the quick reply, the 4 digit ani is working now.

Sorry if I confused you.   For my Q1 I was referring to the Proctor Guide
solution on page 269.

This is part of the solution leading up to the question on section 5.6 on
page 271 of the proctor guide or page 69 of the WB.   It is a whole sequence
of solutions steps finally leading up to the solution verification on page
279.

I was asking why on page 269 of your solution that in the selection of
devices in the Route Group configuration section ONLY the hq-sip device is
chosen for the RG -rg-hq.

This is because I could not call the 3XXX phones until I included the
gk-trunk device.

Calls from the HQ must be going through the gk-trunk ?

Thanks for your help.  I am still new to voice and is still trying to
understand how things work.

On the GK trunk you should UNCHECK the checkbox ³Use Device Pool Calling Party
Transformation CSS². With this checked the Calling Party Transformation CSS
set on the Device Pool is being used and this expands 5XXX to 3945XXX. You
need this checked on the other gateways (PSTN) but not the GK trunk.

As a favor- can you include the Question # you are working on from the WB and
it will help me when I¹m hunting for the appropriate configuration:-) Thanks.

 Subject: Lab 5A - BR2 - Help

 Hi Vik,

I really appreciate your help in clarifying the following questions:

On page 269 of the Proctor Guide it says add the hq-sip device to the RG
 rg-hq.

 Q1.  I cannot call BR2-3xxx phones ( HQ can still call BR1 phones) ,  if  I do
 not include the device gk-trunk

Why is it that gk-trunk is not included ?

I finally got the following tasks right : HQ Phone calling 911- PSTN with a 7
 digit calling number and name,
br1 phone calling 911 with a 10 digit calling number and name.

Q2. When HQ calls BR2 , HQ phone is showing up as a 7 digit (3945001) instead
of a 4 digit  DN.  HQ calling BR1 will show as a 4 digit DN.

I have a RP 3XXX and all other RPs  as  RP--rl-local-gw---Standard Local
 Route Group (rg-br1,rg-hq)

In the case of BR2, there is no requirement for any transformations, so it
should show up as local 4 digit DN.

 ( In Lab 4A -Br2 - 3XXX was pointing to the gk-trunk)

' use calling Party external phone number mask' is unchecked and no route
 partition on the RP configuration.
Even if I do otherwise it will still show up as a 7 digit instead of just
 5001.

I can't figure out what I am missing.

Otto,

I got your point. We have applied the logic to the LLQ but have not the same
logic when provisioning RSVP bandwidth. As you say ip rsvp bandwidth 64
would be the correct answer. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for you answers Vik,

1.- As you mentioned, the bandwidth is hardcoded to 40 kbps (in a g729
call), but this is for the initial rsvp request, when the media is still not
established yet between the endpoints (worst case call). Later, when this
happens the reservation is adjusted to the current call characteristics,
i.e. 24 kbps for a g729 20ms call (L3 BW), the remaining 16 kpbs would be
available for other calls,

I we use 40 Kbps per call for every call in the rsvp reservation command, we
could be allowing extra calls in our calculations. For example, 4 g729 calls
x 40 Kbps = 160 Kbps, in this case rsvp would allow more than 4 simultaneous
calls, if we again consider that an established call uses only 24kbps,

I think this is the reason the srnd recommends to make the calculation
considering only the Nth call as the worst case, the other N-1 calls can be
calculated as normal L3 calls,

BR,

Otto

Subject: Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab 10A BW Calculations

1.- For task 10.1, we must allow two calls between hq and br1 using rsvp,
however, the rsvp profile max sessions software is set to 4 calls, is there
any reason not to use 2 in this field?.

vik: Yes you can set max sessions set to 2 in the MTP- however the MTP could
also be used as an MTP not associated with RSVP call agent so it might be
wise to either increase your max sessions within the MTP or put the MTP into
a separate MRG that is bottom of the list within the MRGL. In other words-
only use the MTP for RSVP CAC.

Later In the same task the ip rsvp bandwidth is set to 80 kbps in the Serial
interface. According to the srnd we should reserve (N-1 x L3 Call BW)+ (1
Worst Case Call L3 BW), so that if we¹re using g729 codec that would be: 1 x
24 kbps (20 ms or whatever the default packet size is in ucm) + 40 kbps (10
ms call) = 64 Kbps. Although I think the 80kbps calculation fits well when
you have very few calls (in this case you could have both ringing at the
same time), does not scale well when you have a larger number of calls as
you might be reserving extra bandwidth, so I would have used 64kbps here.

vik: the amount of bandwidth requested is hardcoded to 40kbps for a g729
call irrespective of what is actually used.

2.- In the task 10.4, to provision the llq priority queue the value
configured is (2 x L2 Call BW) + (1 Worst case L3 Call) or 2 x 26.8 kbps +
40 kbps = 93.6 kbps rounded up to 94 kbps. Aren¹t we considering three calls
here?. I agree that srnd recommends to over provision the llq when using
rsvp, but I think this is being considered when we add the worst case
scenario call (40 kbps), in consequence my calculation here would be 26.8
Kbps (1 L2 call) + 40 Kbps (worst case call) = 66.8 Kbps rounded to 67 Kbps
for the priority command,

vik: Good find! We configured 3 calls in the LLQ whereas it should have been
2.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Module 3a - SIP registration

2009-07-08 Thread Vik Malhi
If we only ever had local phones register to the CME we would never need the
authenticate register command since the CME authenticates the MAC address of
the SIP phone by comparing the result of an ARP request.

IF you have remote phones the above process cannot be used as an
authentication mechanism (wiki ARP to find out why:-) and therefore we use a
built-in procedure within the SIP protocol for authentication. This is
called the SIP Digest Authentication mechanism. The user/passwd are sent to
the phone in a cnf file (encrypted passwd) and during the registration
process the user/passwd stored in the phone cnf file is compared with the
credentials within the voice register pool.

The downside is that if you specify ³authenticate register² globally ALL
phones must use the SIP Digest Authentication mechanism. You can¹t have some
phones use the ARP procedure and some phones use the SIP procedure.

Therefore if you specify authenticate register in voice register global then
every Voice Register Pool will need a user/passwd. You have correctly
identified (along with others) that all voice register pool¹s must contain a
username/password

If you ever see the error ³no contact info for pool x² it means the phone
has not registered. You must use the ³show voice register dial-peer² command
to verify registration of a SIP phone.

If you do not see any dial-peers created for the SIP phones then use debug
voice register events and debug ccsip messages for more info. With the SIP
mechanism you should see the initial register get rejected (401
Unauthorized) and then the SIP phone RE-REGISTER (Register in response to
the 401Unauth) except this time it registers with the credentials.

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Module 3a - SIP registration

Hello,
I'm having trouble with a couple of parts of the SIP phone registration
part of module 3.  When the module was first released, I noticed that there
was confusion over the syntax authenticate register as the voice register
pool x sections in the PG don't mention the use of a username/password.
Others is OSL have mentioned it the same confusion, am wondering if there's
been an explanation in the context of the exercise.  Most people resolve the
issue by not adding the authenticate register syntax or specifying a
username/password.  Has IPexpert mentioned the reason for this?

Also, my bigger problem is that my 7960 SIP phone can't be reset under
voice register global.  When I try to after creating the profile, I get
errors saying

No contact info available for pool 1.
No contact info available for pool 2.

Does anyone know what causes this?  I've tried googling it, but to no
avail.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] CCIE VOICE LAB DESIGN ON VMWARE

2009-07-08 Thread Anestis Koukis
Hello to all guys,

This is my first post so please be patience with me because I’m going to ask
a lot at once.

First in my company we have bought some good staffs for our lab in order to
build our list for the Advanced Unified Communication Specialization and
also to build a CCIE Voice Lab for me (this my second attempt) and a
colleague of me.

We have bought 1x MCS-7825-H3-CCX1 (*HW Only MCS-7825-H3 with 2GB RAM and
Two 160GB SATA HD)* and 2x MCS-7835-H2-CCX2 *(**HW Only MCS-7835-H2 with 2GB
RAM and Two 146GB SAS HD)* our plans are to install VMware in order to
install on those 2 MCS platforms the following servers 2x CUCM 7.X, 1xUCCX
7.X, 1xCUC 7.X, 1xCUPS 7.X. After a lot of search on net with have conclude
to the following results.

1st We have to install VMware GSX or ESXi. Which of the two is much more
suitable?

2nd If we choose to install GSX, do we have to install Win OS 2003 Server
only on MCS platforms or it is more appropriate to install linux?

3rd For it’s virtual machine which we are going to create we have to
configure 1024 Mbit ram so when we will run a full 8 hours scaleable lab
which required all the five virtual servers to be up and running our going
to have some performance issues or we are OK? If we are going to have some
performance issues do we have to do some hardware upgrade such as us ram,HD
on MCS platforms?

Any advice to those questions guys will be useful. Also keep in mind that we
do not have a lot experience on VMware.

Best Regards

It is possible to install MeetingPlace Express 2.1.1.2 in VMWare without
any issues. I just have to define it as a type Red Hat Enterprise
 Linux 3 (32-Bit), SCSI HD of 50 GB, 2GB RAM, and 2 NICs. I believe I
have also installed from the shipping version of MPX which is included
in the CUCM7 NFR and then upgraded to 2.1.1.2 and did not have any
problems. You will be warned that the platform is unsupported once you
get to the GUI portion of the install, but unlike previous versions, it
does not only offer you the option to quit but to proceed anyway.

Hi Deepak

Pls check if you have Software feature license or not. Without this license,
Call Manager service won't start.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Meeting Place Express in Vmware

2009-07-08 Thread Tanner Ezell
I just recently as of about a week ago, installed MPX 2.1.1.2 on VMware;
Interesting you say it worked when you specified a SCSI Drive, as it
required me to give it an IDE drive before it was able to begin partition
setup. After that, I ran into some other issues which will prevent MPX from
initiating X installation, you'll need to boot the MPX system into single
user mode, which can be accomplished by modifying the kernel string at boot.
When grub (the bootloader) shows up after you first turn the machine on, hit
'e', scroll down to the second line (should start with 'kernel'), hit 'e' or
enter, i forget which at this moment again and it will allow you to modify
the boot string. simply type in 'single' at the end, hit enter, hit 'b'
which will boot the system and you will be given root access. At this point,
you can install vmware tools and generate a good X configuration file with
the command, 'X -configure' and copy the resulting file to /etc/X11. After
which, when I booted I was still prompted to login, however because the
actual MPX applicaiton hadn't installed, neither root or mpxadmin had been
given passwords. So, while in as single user, run the adduser command
'adduser -G root, wheel foobar' and give it a password with 'pwd foobar'.
Then you can proceed to login to the graphical interface, start the install
and you're off and good to go. If there is a better way, then awesome, but
this is the procedure I had to go through. I plan on doing a write up
shortly and will post it here when it's done. If you have any questions feel
free to let me know!

For me, it was with ESX 3.5 Update 4.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] CM to GK BRQ behavior

2009-07-08 Thread Scott ODonnell
I'm seeing something strange in making calls from CM to CME via GK.
I've enabled the BRQ service parameter in CM.
I've included bandwidth total default 16 in my gk config and did a shut/no
shut

When I make calls from CM to CME the deb h225 asn1 shows (I think) that 128k
is being requested.

Am I missing something obivous here ?
Currently all my calls get rejected from the GK and go via the HQ GW.
If I remove the bandwidth command from the Gatekeeper config, the call works
using g729.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] CM to GK BRQ behavior

2009-07-08 Thread Scott ODonnell
I found it.The DP assigned to the trunk was in HQ so CM was trying to do
g711.
I didn't have voice class codec configured on the CME so I'm assuming the
call setup went through to the GK as g711 and got changed to g729 when CM
started talking to CME.
