It's back up now - my connectivity was only down for 2 minutes. Thanks for the heads up about the DNS - that shouldn't have impacted the VPN connection though - it is all done by IP... OK, now Proctorlabs.com is unreachable. Again. It's been going up and down for any hour or so, but seems down now.
