[ccp4bb] PhD at Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand

2019-06-13 Thread Catherine Day
PhD at Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand

Talented PhD candidates interested in studying the biochemical properties of
ubiquitin E3-ligases are being recruited to join Catherine Day’s laboratory in
the Biochemistry Department, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand.
Two projects are available. In one project you will investigate how ubiquitin
binding sites on the machinery that builds ubiquitin chains influence chain
assembly. In the second project, you will study a RING E3 ligase with the goal
of identifying the domains and interactions that are required for ubiquitin
transfer. Both projects aim to understand the molecular details that regulate
ubiquitin attachment, and offer opportunities to start a career in an exciting
and important area of research. More details about my research are available at
https://www.otago.ac.nz/biochemistry/people/profile/index.html?id=254
Highly motivated individuals with a BSc(Hons) or MSc in Molecular Biology,
Biochemistry, or related discipline are encouraged to apply. The ideal
candidates will have practical knowledge in expression construct design and
optimization, as well as protein purification. Experience in analysis of the
ubiquitin system, structure determination methods and other biophysical methods
is an advantage. Excellent communication skills, willingness to work in a team,
and the ability to plan and interpret experiments in an independent manner are
important attributes. The ability to communicate proficiently in English is
essential.
Include in your application (i) a copy of your CV, (ii) a copy of your academic
transcript, (iii) a short motivation statement (~500 words), and (iv) a pdf
copy of your research thesis.
Please send applications to
catherine@otago.ac.nz

[ccp4bb] Postdoctoral position in membrane protein structural biology

2019-06-13 Thread Seok-Yong Lee
Dear colleagues,

Please pass this ad along any one who might be interested. Seok-Yong

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow position in the laboratory
of Seok-Yong Lee at Duke University School of Medicine to work on the structure
and mechanisms of ion channels and transporters. Please see our web page for
more details on our research program: https://sites.duke.edu/leelab/

Candidates must have obtained a Ph.D. degree within the past three years and
possess a strong background in protein biochemistry (protein expression and
purification) and structural biology (single particle cryo-electron microscopy
or X-ray crystallography) and be highly organized. Additional expertise in
either membrane protein biochemistry or cryo-EM are plus. Strong verbal and
written communication skills are highly desirable.

The Lee lab is fully equipped for structural studies of membrane proteins and
has frequent access to the 300 kV Titan Krios TEM with K3 and Falcon III
detectors in the Duke University.

If you are interested, please email your curriculum vitae, a cover letter
describing your research experience and interests and contact information for 2
references to seok-yong@duke.edu
