[ccp4bb] EMBO SAXS/SANS practical course Grenoble, France, June 2022

2022-01-11 Thread Gabel Frank

Dear colleagues,

I would like to announce the upcoming EMBO SAXS/SANS practical course:

https://meetings.embo.org/event/21-biomacromolecules

The course will take place in Grenoble (France) from 20th-24th June
2022, and will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of SAXS/SANS
on biomacromolecular solutions.

Currently, we are planning to carry out the course as an in-person event
and encourage candidates to apply by the deadline of March 20th.

The final decision on the organization of the course as an in-person
event will be communicated to all registered candidates by the end of
March 2022.
It will depend on the evolution of the state of the COVID pandemic and
its impact on travel conditions and in-person meetings.

Inscription fees are moderate for PhD students and postdocs (200 euros)
and cover both accommodation and meals.

A limited number of travel grants is also available.

Best regards,
Frank Gabel
(On behalf of the organizers: Anne Martel (ILL), Petra Pernot (ESRF),
Mark Tully (ESRF) and Frank Gabel (IBS))

Re: [ccp4bb] JCSG structure validation server - Quality Control Check v3.2 for X-ray and cryo-EM structures

2022-01-11 Thread Gye Won Han

Dear Mike and all,

We are very happy to announce that the QC-Check program is now revived
and given the new name "Quality Control Check v3.2 for X-ray and cryo-EM
structures." It is accessible at the following URL:
https://qc-check.usc.edu

The QC-Check program was initially developed at JCSG.
It is now maintained by the Bridge Structural Biology Center & CARC at USC.

Please feel free to use the program and send us your comments.

We thank the Bridge staff at USC for their great help
and acknowledge support from SSRL where the QC-Check was previously hosted.
We also appreciate the wonderful encouragement from our former JSCG colleagues.

Best Regards,

Gye Won

Subject: [ccp4bb] JCSG structure validation server

Hi all,

I recently tried to use the structure validation server and found that the web
link is no longer active. I wonder if anyone has an idea of whether it is still
available elsewhere or whether it has been discontinued?

Thanks,

Mike

[ccp4bb] Launching COOT "Stepped Refine" from terminal/script

2022-01-11 Thread Christopher Browning
Hi All,

I’m working with many different structures at the same time and I want to speed
up opening the structures in COOT buy using the terminal but then launching the
usually, menu activated Stepped Refine option at the same time. Normally I
would have to manually select Calculate • All Molecule • Stepped Refine… from
the menus after I have opened the PDB and MTZ file but I was wondering if there
was a command to launch the stepped refine from the terminal so that it will
start the real space refinement as soon as COOT launches.

Thanks,

Chris Browning

Re: [ccp4bb] Citing Combat

2022-01-11 Thread Phil Evans
The program combat is largely obsolete, and in most cases can be replaced by
pointless

I doubt that there is a specific paper about it, beyond the general CCP4 ones
