The Department of Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCMB) at
the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT) is soliciting applications for a
tenure‐track position at the rank of an Assistant or Associate Professor to
begin on August 1, 2018. BCMB (https://bcmb.utk.edu) has 40 active faculty

Applicants must have a doctorate (PhD or equivalent) and postdoctoral
experience in an appropriate discipline with evidence of high quality
research. Also important, is an interest in teaching biochemistry and/or
physical biochemistry at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Applicants must send a single document containing a cover letter, CV with a
full list of publications, statements of current and future research
interests, and of teaching philosophy in PDF format to
 experimentalbiophys...@utk.edu.
Applicants must also arrange to have at least three letters of
recommendation sent electronically to
utkreferen...@utk.edu. The review of applications will begin in October 16,
2017, and will continue until the position is filled.

The University of Tennessee is an EEO/AA/Title VI/Title IX/Section
504/ADA/ADEA institution

[ccp4bb] over-expression strategies

2013-09-12 Thread Elias Fernandez
Dear CCP4ers,

We've been struggling with little (nearly none) expression of our protein,
in both E coli and with in vitro transcription/translation methods. It
appears that our mRNA has high 2' structure with a low dG (theoretically
~760kcal/mol). If this is indeed the source of our problem, are there any
potential strategies to either disrupt the mRNA structure chemically (in E
coli or in vitro) or with thermophile expression systems for expression at
higher temperatures?

Regards,

Elias

[ccp4bb] anti-His6 Ab

2013-03-15 Thread Elias Fernandez
Dear All, would you be able to recommend a primary anti-His6 Ab for western
blotting? Thus far, the ones we've used are not very specific to the
N-terminal hexahistidines and we pick up lots of background. Also, there's
one (others?) from Sigma that is conjugated to HRP, but costs ~$650. Thanks!

[ccp4bb] still... problems with COOT and Pymol stereo

2012-02-17 Thread Elias Fernandez

Dear CCP4ers,

I'd sent this e-mail out a week or so ago. I'm still struggling with the 3D
kit and 2 monitors.

I'd purchased a stereo monitor from Sharper Technology with a Planar SA2311W
stereo 3D LCD and the Nvidia 3D vision kit. However, I'm having a problem
with the dual monitor setup. Everything works fine with Pymol and Coot when
using a single 3D capable monitor (Planar SA2311W) and NVIDIA 3D Vision
system (Quadro 4000But, whenever I plug in the second monitor the 3D image
(Coot and Pymol) becomes unstable (jittery - the molecule actually starts
jiggling).

Oddly, I don't have the same problem with the example stereo pictures and
movies the company sends along.

I'm using the MS Windows platform and I use the 2nd monitor for simultaneous
word-processing etc.

Any ideas for fixes?

Best,

Elias
