[ccp4bb] DLP Link vs. IR emitter based 3D projection

2012-06-14 Thread mesters

Hi,

I am looking for an affordable 3D Protein Cave configuration (thus, no
quadro 1500 US$ and no 3D stereoscopic projector 1500 US$).

At Schrödinger (Pymol) they successfully operate a viewsonic pro8450w, a
high-end quadro and the vnidia 3D vision ready glasses (USB port based
IR emitter) for 3D visualization in a small conference room (still quite
expensive...). The Yasara homepage suggests a viewsonic (for example PJD
6553W, DLP 3D Ready) with DLP Link Glasses. With this setup, an entry to
midrange quadro will do.

Now, my questions are, does anybody own / operate successfully a more
affordable class room 3D projection configuration (720p@120Hz) with:

1)a quadro 600 or 2000 and a DLP 3D Ready projector (3000-4000 Lumen)
with DLP Link Glasses?

2)a quadro 600 or 2000 and a 3D Ready projector (3000-4000 Lumen, maybe
even with a mini 3-pin vesa sync out like modern 3DTVs!) with nvidia 3D
vision ready glasses (USB port based IR emitter)?

Do programs like Pymol, Coot, etc. work with this 3D setup? What about
ghosting (should not be a problem with DLP Link or projectors that have
a sync out I assume, right?). Or, is the white flash of DLP Link systems
disturbing to much?

Any configuration suggestions work WORK WELL are welcome!

Jeroen

Here's the xorg.conf for (1) since I already gave you the hardware
setup : http://nopaste.info/946bd53e3e.html . Enable generic active
stereo in windows. You can basically drive this with any quadro (not
nvs), even a low end 370 would work.
