Re: [ccp4bb] nVidia 3D Vision2 glasses

2020-01-15 Thread Dirk Kostrewa

Dear CCP4BBers,

I have done a few tests with different desktop environments and 3D
stereo, recently:

For Gnome3 with Fedora and EL8 (clones), enabling 3D stereo works
without switching off COMPOSITE in the xorg.conf. Enabling/disabling 3D
stereo leads to some additional visible switching of the graphics with
~1 second delay (I assume COMPOSITE is disabled/enabled behind the
scenes). However, this does not work for Debian Buster, meaning, you
can't use Gnome3 together with 3D stereo, there.

Interestingly, for the following desktop environments, there is no need
to switch off COMPOSITE in the xorg.conf, since this can be done during
your graphical session in the desktop settings. After that, 3D stereo
works (tested on Debian Buster). Not switching off COMPOSITE in the
xorg.conf has the advantage that the user may also use Gnome3 for the
desktop environment.

For switching compositing on/off, please check/uncheck the following
settings in the tested desktop environments:

Plasma5: Settings -> Display and Monitor -> Compositor -> Enable display
compositing

MATE: Control Center -> Windows -> General -> Enable software
Compositing manager

XFCE: Settings -> Window Manager Tweaks -> Compositor -> Enable display
compositing

I hope that helps.

Cheers,

Dirk.

Attached find a typical functional /etc/X11/xorg.conf file for stereo use from
a Scientific Linux 7 machine.
The two notable things about this file:
"STEREO" is enabled in the "Screen" section.
"COMPOSITE" is disabled in the "Extensions" section.

With some newer desktops such as Gnome 3 it is not possible to disable
composite. Try using the XFCE or Mate desktop.

Hi Matthias,

although, Nvidia announced that the final driver with 3D stereo is the 418
driver, the more recent drivers (at least up to 440) under Linux (CentOS 7.7)
apparently still support quad-buffered 3D stereo on our Quadro cards. This is
in line with the 3D Vision End-of-Life

I am currently having Quadro 4000 graphics card and a 3D compatible Alienware

I have no idea what the second line means.. but it works with coot.

that comes with this cable and last I checked nvidia store was out of
stock on purchasing these cables separately, so we still purchase the

In our case, the emitter is indeed connected to the graphic card with
the 3 pin mini cable. The cable was included in the box.

that comes with this cable and last I checked nvidia store was out of
stock on purchasing these cables separately, so we still purchase the
v1 kits.

I have no idea what the second line means.. but it works with coot.

Dear CCP4 users

Has anybody successfully configured NVIDIA 3D VISION-2 kit in CentOS-5.x
and used COOT hardware stereo.

I am currently having Quadro 4000 graphics card and a 3D compatible
Alienware monitor. I could configure these easily in windows but not
getting much clues for CentOS-5.x.

Please point me to the right pages if this has been discussed already.

I would like to draw your attention: Do not rush to set these up
now. There are many problems with quadro card and 3D vision kit
running on linux. We are wasting a lot of time to work out solutions.

No, and it has nothing to do with the monitor. It's the sync signal
from the nvidia emitter which isn't compatible with nuvision,
crystaleyes, or edimensional goggles.

2010-03-03 Thread Greg Warren
I have Nvidia 3D vision running on the Samsung SyncMaster 2233. One note of
caution, for the Quadra FX3800 if you are using dual monitors I haven't found a
way to get TwinView to work with the Nvidia 195.30 beta linux driver. You can
configure for 2 X-screens to drive the two screens as a work around. This is
most likely a 3800 problem since the 3800 has 1 DVI and 2 HDMI outputs instead
of 2 DVI outputs. If you are looking for a new graphics card as well and like
dual monitors I would stay away from the Quadro FX1800 and FX3800.

The Nvidia 3D vision quality is better than Zalman but the Zalman glasses are
much lighter if you do a lot of stereo.

I very much doubt it. If I understand it correctly this systems only
works with DirectX applications. Since (Win)Coot uses OpenGL rather than
DirectX it is unlikely to work (although there seem to be some emulators
around, but who knows what they do). Furthermore the 3D bundle requires
the application to run in full screen mode, which is currently not
available for (Win)Coot. So I guess we need to wait a bit longer and
hope that Nvidia (or whoever else) comes up with a proper quad-buffered,
OpenGL solution for LCD 3D viewing.
