For libraries that use autotools for building (that includes mmdb, libccp4, clipper) you may change --disable-static to --enable-static in conf.py. Or even better, in user's configuration file (cj.rc) add a line: autogenargs = autogenargs.replace('--disable-static','--enable-static') Libraries with different build systems usually can build only one version (static or shared) at time.
