Re: Wanted: IBM PC compatible 8 or 16 bit Arcnet cards

2021-12-12 Thread Jonathan Haddox via cctalk
I'll be following your progress with interest, I just installed Coax into the
walls of my computer playhouse so I can ARCNet with my S-100 system. I have an
ARCNet packet sniffer that can be loaned out if you would find it helpful.

Hey all --

Got the TC01 working the other night, after a couple weeks of debugging

connected to the 8/I and running at the same time, so I'm looking for a
DM01 Data Multiplexer.  If anyone has any leads, do let me know.

Thanks as always,

(*) Total TC01 fault count (so far):
- Bad transistor in TU55 motor brake control (W040)
- Bad jumper solder joints in TU55 (W990)
- Timing of UTS and U+M one-shots (R303) way out of adjustment (U+M
one-shot was at 2 seconds or so...)
- Bad tape data relay (G851)
- Bad IOT decoder transistor (W103)
- Missing Diode (W113) and weak diode in Write enable selection logic
- Timing of write clock way, way out of adjustment (90Khz vs. 125Khz
expected.)
- 24 dead maintenance panel bulbs
- 2 dead TU55 bulbs (yet to be replaced)

Tap handles and DEC boards?  Odd mix.

I took a risk and bid.  I have an -8/e and -8/m to fix.

I'm using debug logs to try to debug flow control issues when using mTCP
and a packet driver that presents itself as Ethernet but actually uses
ARCNET.  I've gotten to the point where I just want to have an Arcnet in
the house.  Especially since I might just modify mTCP to work with Arcnet
packet drivers and cards directly.

Before I get too serious with eBay, does anybody want to rehome some Arcnet
hardware?

Re: Diversified Technology CAT904 80286 single board PC

2021-03-16 Thread Jonathan Haddox via cctalk
I've got a Diversified Tech 286 SBC as well and was able to switch to 3.5
floppies by modifying the BIOS settings. Mine has the Dallas Real Time Clock
chip and the battery was dead so the BIOS settings weren't preserved after a
reboot. Fortunately I obtained a replacement chip available on ebay to fix that
issue. I haven't got a manual to share, but it's a neat little board.

I had some extra A4 pages with a VAXstation 2000 manual which covered
a preview PK2K kit for VMS, bootloader and ROM to allow use of the
VAXstation 2000 SCSI controller for more than just tapes.

Rough scan at http://sync.absd.org/vax/VAX-PK2K-preview-kit.pdf (the
originals will be sent to someone who can do a better job)

The pages led me to http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/vms/ which includes some goodies:
- http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/vms/pk2k - uVAX-2k SCSI patches with source
for boot roms, VMB & VMS
- http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/vms/ka420 - ROM patches for KA420/KA430 boot
from >1GB disks
- http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/vms/dk-552/ - VMS 5.2 patch to allow to
accept more SCSI disk devices

(Starting a new thread in case there is (slightly) more general
interest for anyone interested in using the onboard uVAX-2K SCSI
controller more more than tapes (OK, OK, for anyone not running NetBSD
on their uVAX-2K interested in etc etc) - have cross posted to cctalk
& port-vax - hopefully not violating any conventions there)

Concurrent Controls Multiuser DOS

2020-10-03 Thread Jonathan Haddox via cctalk
I'm researching Multiuser DOS out of my own interest. A version made by
Concurrent Controls specifically. However, I have been unable to find
documentation on it to satisfy my curiosity on how it works and how it is
configured. They must have somehow broken the 640K barrier or virtualized each
user session, I'd like to understand it better. What were it's limitations,
I'm guessing that each user didn't get direct access to hardware. Anyone out
there have a document or experience with it?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Thank you Richard, yes if you're willing to check your inventory of ARCnet
cards I may find something useful. ARCnet boards are pretty much all the same,
but this particular one I'm hunting for from Intercontinental Micro is
compatible with a special boot ROM I have that promises to unlock wonders
unknown to the world since 1987. Maybe I exaggerate a little bit, but I do
appreciate you checking.

Re: TurboDOS for S-100, IMS or L/F Technologies

2019-11-24 Thread Jonathan Haddox via cctalk
Yes, I was able to determine that the TurboDOS 1.41c disks which would complete
my particular setup do exist and that they are in good hands, however I have
not been able to get copies of the disks as of yet. I'm hoping that patience
will prevail and perhaps another copy will turn up or the copies that I know
about might someday become available.

The 16-bit 1.43 version that you need is readily available as 5.25" disk
images. I've got copies of them and they work well. If you need it on 8"
floppy, I can probably convert them using my IMS system to write them to 8".
Getting a system up and running is not that difficult, I can guide you through
if there's any trouble.
