I have a DEC branded daisy wheel printer. I think it is a Diablo 1620. It
was part of a ClassIC which is an 8/a with RX-01 and VT terminal of some
type in a desk with a chair. This one had the daisy wheel printer and a
DECwriter. I have not looked closely at the printer mechanism. The
DECwriter is in pretty bad shape but I have the 8/a and RX-01 running
(mostly). The original desk and chair are going to be refurbished next.

What is the purpose of the query?

I had some DEC branded daisy wheel printers years ago, but they are long gone
now. There was also an LA75 and and LA210, IIRC.

DEC sold a number of printers of varying speeds. I think they may all have
been drum printers, but there may have been a band or train printer, too.
these were all based on mechanisms made by other outfits, with DEC controller
and branding. But, not a lot of installations bought them, as DEC added a
premium to the price. I've only seen the real DEC printers in advertising and
handbook photos.

DEC sold a number of printers of varying speeds. I think
they may all have been drum printers, but there may have
been a band or train printer, too. these were all based on
mechanisms made by other outfits, with DEC controller and
branding. But, not a lot of installations bought them, as
DEC added a premium to the price. I've only seen the real
DEC printers in advertising and handbook photos.

They sold some drum, chain, and band printers, but I think they were all
OEM'd. Late examples were the LP25, LP26, and LP27/LP29. Note that some
system-specific printer subsystems (e.g., LP11-xx, LP20-xx, and LP32-xx)
contained printers with their own separate designations.

As far as I recall, the only printer mechanisms DEC made themselves were
dot matrix impact or electrolytic. Of course, they also OEM'd some
dot-matrix printers, including the LA50 and LA75.

I remember seeing the LA-36 Production Line at Westfield in 1975.
They made them by the 1000. When I sold them my MOQ was 500.

Well yes, it was a Qume 1220. DEC didn’t make an awful lot of stuff outside of
the actual PDP/VAX area.

Then there the LP 25,26,27 band printers.

Sadly, what I’m seeing is the availability is about Zero, additionally that
appears to be the availability of the ink ribbons. Oh, well, it was an insane

The one thing I googled up said that the printer the person was repairing had a
Qume mechanism in it.

I'm sure DEC did NOT make the actual wheel motor assembly.
Qume and Diablo were the two biggies in that arena.
Probably because of patents and copyrights, you couldn't
just make compatible daisy wheel font wheels, either.
