But the reverse engineering of the PC seemed like a direct reference to Compaq. Maybe Cardiff was a portmanteau of Compaq and Tandy, both having strong Texas roots. -Ed-

I felt like Cardiff also had a resemblance to Tandy/Radio Shack as well, since they were in the electronics business before getting into computers.
