I wouldn't. The manufacturers say "warranty void if flashing
unauthorised firmware". Waste my time to fix their problems on a *brand
new* item? What do they get my money for? Take the rubbish back to the
shop, give the manufacturers feedback.

No, I did not. If I would flash the firmware, the computer shop might
not give me the refund :) Somebody else did and claims that solves the
problem, but that was after I had been talking to the shop.

Well, mine was not really cheap. I did not feel like shopping around
and bought it by mail order. But it looks good: burnt a DVD+R and a
DVD+R(DL) without any problem.

This sounds interesting. I'll put some DVD-RAM discs on the shopping
list for my girl friend tomorrow :)

VK> Pioneer 108 and 109 are crap,

The ASUS 1608P turned out to be a Pioneer 109 really. It goes back to
the shop where I bought it next week and I'll get a refund {already
agreed that).

Re: Cdrecord-ProDVD, burning DVD+RW fails

2005-09-09 Thread F. Kappen
Hi all,

after numerous trials and studying the READMEs and mailing-lists
concerning "cdrecord-prodvd" I haven't succeeded burning my DVDs with
"cdrecord-prodvd ". So I switched to "growisofs". "growisofs" is
relatively simple and has not such a rich flavour of features like
"cdrecord-prodvd" has, but it works, serves my needs and I am
completely satisfied.

Cheers
Friedhelm
