You can try to replace the icedtea plugin with the one from Oracle.
As i wrote in my first mail. Try to locate the plugin folder of your
firefox installation (maybe in your ff profile or system wide in the
firefox folder), backup the old plugin and place there a symlink to the
oracle plugin (/usr/java/jre1.8.0_144/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so).

OK and did your set the security setting to the lowest one?

Ah, yes, I do have that. It's the same as running ControlPanel - that
is where they had me try puttin the IP address of the IMM in the

Re: [CentOS-virt] Xen CentOS 7.3 server + CentOS 7.3 VM fails to boot after CR updates (applied to VM)!

2017-09-14 Thread Anderson, Dave
I've been pretty happy using 7.3+CR/7.4 as PVHVM for the last week or two now,
no complaints other than the sudden problem with PV taking me by surprise.

Has anyone tried with 7.4 as the dom0 yet? I saw the point in the 7.4 release
notes about enough rebasing taking place that I probably shouldn't update my
xen hypervisor machines yet...but wondering what the status is on that.

Thanks,
-Dave

I think I may. I haven't tried yet, but I'll see if I can get my hands
on one and test it tomorrow when I'm back at the office tomorrow.
RH closed my bug as "WONTFIX" so far, saying Red Hat Quality
 Engineering
Management declined the request. I started to look at the Red Hat
source browser to see the list of patches from 693 to 514, but getting
the full list seems impossible because the change log only goes back to
644 and there doesn't seem to be a way to obtain full builds of
 unreleased kernels. Unless I'm mistaken.
I will also do some digging via RH support if I can.

When this was working before the firmware update the RC software
invoked IcedTea. As one of the attempted fixes IBM suggested using
javaws instead. Intially I did not have javaws but I did have
javaws.itweb. I tried that and it failed in the same way.

Then they asked me to run this:

alternatives --config java

There are 2 programs which provide 'java'.

And switch to the second one. When I did that it still failed with

Again, please enter 'about:plugins' in the address bar of your browser
to make sure, that the right java version is activated.

But normally javaws is a different topic. As far as i remember, there
should be an option to let firefox ask, which javaws should be executed.
As i understand, you have different version installed.

And at last, please check the security options with jcontrol. Newer java
version are more restricted about security settings.

I think you mean VirtualBox 5.1.26. And yes, there's some trouble with
it with the latest update. Check out the CentOS 1708 release notes.

Workaround is to use VirtualBox 5.1.26 with the 5.1.27
VBoxGuestAdditions.iso. Tried this out here, works perfectly.

redistribuirlas.

So it sounds like the links needed for the plugin to work are not
configured on the system. So you have some symlinks pointing to the
openjdk with the system and some pointing the one you tried to
install. I don't know how you installed this new jdk so it may be for

aplicaciones.

Note that there can be issues. My desktop is:

Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1225 v5 @ 3.30GHz

...and it wasn't until 7.4 that it'd run without crashing when using anything
attached to xHCI.

For a server, USB probably isn't an issue, but this seemed worth noting.

CentOS 6.9 has support for the Haswell processor which is a subset of the
Skylake.

All Skylake server ancillary components work perfectly with CentOS 6.9.

The AST2500 used with the Skylake is very good and will process UHD. However
this is not backwards compatible with legacy variants.

To make it work an ancillary graphics card is required which is less than
$100. This will not break the bank.

CentOS 6.9 kernel does not have support for Skylake processors, I believe
that there is an alternate arch SIG that "may" be able to compile 6.9 with
a newer kernel or you may have to compile something using the kernel that
is available from ELRepo.

Or use another graphic card that is compatible with the kernel that comes
with CentOS 6.9.

I'm not sure how the browser plugin determines which java to run.

Or, change the path.  the java command sets java_home internally based

[CentOS-virt] Xen-44 Package Updates for XSAs up to XSA-235

2017-09-14 Thread Kevin Stange
Hi all,

Sorry for running a bit behind on security patch releases for the Xen-44
branch. As of yesterday, package version 4.4.4-28 was released for
testing, which includes all relevant XSA patches through XSA-235 here:

https://buildlogs.centos.org/centos/6/virt/x86_64/xen-44/

Please test and provide feedback if possible so we can get this package
moved to release fairly soon.

Currently in the release repo is 4.4.4-27 as of last week, which
contains all relevant patches through XSA-230.

Hello,
Although you've instaled Oracle JRE 1.8, OpenJDK is the default, as you can
see.
Remove OpenJDK and execute java -version again.

I used to have issues with Java and our IBM IMM's but seem to have it working
on my MAC using java 8 build 144 and Safari. You *may* need to add the host imm
ip address to your exception site list under the java security tab, if you
haven’t already.

[CentOS-virt] Availability of official AWS Marketplace image for 1708

2017-09-14 Thread Ian Gable
Hi All,

Does anyone have a guess about when new official AWS Marketplace images will be
available for 1708:
https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/B00O7WM7QW

Sorry to ask after only a day, but we are anxious to start testing AMI builds
in our pipeline starting from the official image.

Thanks,

Ian Gable

CentOS 6.9 kernel does not have support for Skylake processors, I believe
that there is an alternate arch SIG that "may" be able to compile 6.9 with
a newer kernel or you may have to compile something using the kernel that
is available from ELRepo.

Or use another graphic card that is compatible with the kernel that comes
with CentOS 6.9.

The remote machine is an IMM (Integrated Management Module). I can
connect to that from a browser and then use a remote contol function
to control the machine that is attached to the IMM. That machine will
not boot so I want to see the console, which I usually can via this RC
software. It worked before but yesterday I updated the firmware to fix
another issue and that changed java requirements and now RC does not
work.

[CentOS] lighttpd and cgi error reporting

2017-09-14 Thread hw

Hi,

is there a way to get error messages created by CGI perl programs (not fastCGI)
logged with lighttpd? Apache used to put all errors into its error log and
lighttpd does not. That makes debugging rather difficult.

That's common now that everyone puts re-directs in to force everyone to use
https.

Can you get to the Apache logs on the remote machine? They may have more info.

The error about Java 1.8 might be a red-herring.

If the remote machine uses Perl on the backend, you might try setting the shell
env variable OPENSSL_PREFIX to point on your local CentOS6 box to a newer
version of openssl that handles the TLS handshake. The CPAN module Net::SSLeay
uses that variable (if set) to use the specified OpenSSL library.

[CentOS-es] Ftp red local windows - centos 6

::Buenos dias.

In my case, that was the working version I needed for the IBM
hardware. However I just realized the opposite might be also possible.
The hardware is wanting to talk a newer version of TLS that your old
browser can't use. In either case talking with the hardware vendor to
find exactly what they are expecting in both TLS, Java and other parts
is needed.

I have FF version 24.6.0 - probably very old. This is a locked down

Re: [CentOS] Intel Skylake Server

2017-09-14 Thread Mark (Netbook)
Hello,

I have a pre-production Intel Skylake server using dual 8176 processors (28
core @2.1Ghz)

I have loaded from the DVD distribution CentOS 7.3 and RHEL 7.4 with no
problems.

When I try and load CentOS 6.9 the boot process hangs just as the Anaconda
graphics is started for CentOS configuration.

If I use a secondary graphics card then the process completes with no problems
and CentOS boots from the system disk error free.

The server uses AST2500 graphics as standard. This seems to be the problem.

What I need is an iso file that I can load during the initial boot process.

I have tried various grub options and they don’t work.

The reason that I am trying CentOS 6.9 is that many people have applications
which will only run on CentOS 6.*.

For some of the IBM hardware I have had to use a new Java but an old

was that the hardware wanted SSL1/SSL2 type stuff which the new
Firefox and items blocked. There is probably a better way to fix it.

That's very odd, since technically JRE 8 is java 1.8 (and JRE 7 is/was 1.7;
JRE 6 was 1.6, et cetera).

http://javadl.oracle.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=225344_090f390dda5
b47b9b721c7dfaa008135
should get you the 64-bit v1.8 build 144 of Java, which is indeed the latest
version.

What software is it that requires JRE 8.1?

The latest JRE is JRE 8u144 (version 8, update 144). There's no such
thing as JRE 8.1.

A search for "JRE 8.1 or higher" had no hits at all.

The referenced link (https://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Xen_Linux_PV_on_HVM_drivers)
looks to be about adding to the older configuration style file. I do not
see the proper incantation for the " xen_platform_pci=1" in the domain xml
file syntax. I'm not even sure if I attempted it correctly. Is there a
portion of that page that pertains explicitly to booting? I think I missed
something.

I am pleased to announce the general availability of CentOS Linux 7
(1708) for 64 bit x86 compatible machines. Effectively immediately, this
is the current release for CentOS Linux 7 and is tagged as 1708, derived
from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4

As always, read through the Release Notes at :
http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS7 - these notes
contain important information about the release and details about some
of the content inside the release from the CentOS QA team. These notes
are updated constantly to include issues and incorporate feedback from
the users.

--
Updates, Sources, and DebugInfos

Updates released since we froze the iso and install media content are
posted in the updates repo along with the release. This will include
content from late Aug 2017 and Sept 2017, therefore anyone
running a new install is highly encouraged to run a 'yum update'
operation immediate on install completion. You can apply all updates,
including the content released today, on your existing CentOS Linux
7/x86_64 machine by just running 'yum update'.

As with all CentOS Linux 7 components, this release was built from
sources hosted at git.centos.org. In addition, SRPMs that are a
byproduct of the build (and also considered critical in the code and
buildsys process) are being published to match every binary RPM we
release. Sources will be available from vault.centos.org in their own
dedicated directories to match the corresponding binary RPMs. Since
there is far less traffic to the CentOS source RPMs compared with the
binary RPMs, we are not putting this content on the main mirror
network. If users wish to mirror this content they can do so using the
reposync command available in the yum-utils package. All CentOS source
RPMs are signed with the same key used to sign their binary
counterparts. Developers and end users looking at inspecting and
contributing patches to the CentOS Linux distro will find the code
hosted at git.centos.org far simpler to work against. Details on how
to best consume those are documented along with a quick start at :
http://wiki.centos.org/Sources

Debuginfo packages are also being signed and pushed. Yum configs
shipped in the new release file will have all the context required for
debuginfo to be available on every CentOS Linux install.

This release supersedes all previously released content for CentOS
Linux 7, and therefore we highly encourage all users to upgrade their
machines. Information on different upgrade strategies and how to
handle stale content is included in the Release Notes.

Note that older content, obsoleted by newer versions of the same
applications are trim'd off from repos like Extras/ and Plus/ However
this time we have also extended this to the sIG content hosted at
mirror.centos.org, and some older End of Life content has been dropped.
Everything we ever release, is always available on the vault service for
people still looking for and have a real need for it.

In order to conserve donor bandwidth, and to make it possible to get
the mirror content sync'd out as soon as possible, we recommend using
torrents to get your initial installer images:

Details on the images are available on the mirrors at
http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/isos/x86_64/0_README.txt - that file
clearly highlights the difference in the images, and when one might be
more suitable than the others.

Right, and one other aspect of ELRepo's kmod package is that it survives
kernel updates silently. With Nvidia's script, you need to run it upon
every kernel update.

2017-09-14 Thread Jerry Geis
Hi Johnny

Thanks for the commands I think something was messed up as the yum
group install "Gnome Desktop" seems to do the trick.
I had all the other items setup, for disable nouveu and all that.for the
binary NVIDIA.

Anyway - my desktop is back up and running, thanks.

Sadly, the other issue is that the grub menu will not display
for me to

select another kernel to see if it is just a kernel issue.

The dracut prompt does not show any /dev/disk folder either.

I'm seeing this as well. My host is 4.9.44-29 and Xen 4.4.4-26
from
testing repo, my guest is 3.10.0-693.1.1. Guest boots fine
with
514.26.2. The kernel messages that appear to kick off the
failure for
me start with a page allocation failure. It eventually reaches
dracut
failures due to systemd/udev not setting up properly, but I
think the

root is this:

Do any of you guys have access to RHEL to try the RHEL 7.4
Kernel?

I think I may. I haven't tried yet, but I'll see if I can get my
hands

on one and test it tomorrow when I'm back at the office tomorrow.

RH closed my bug as "WONTFIX" so far, saying Red Hat Quality
Engineering
Management declined the request. I started to look at the Red
Hat
source browser to see the list of patches from 693 to 514, but
getting
the full list seems impossible because the change log only goes
back to

644 and there doesn't seem to be a way to obtain full builds of
unreleased kernels. Unless I'm mistaken.

I will also do some digging via RH support if I can.

I would think that RH would want AWS support for RHEL 7.4 and I
thought

AWS was run on Xen // Note: I could be wrong about that.

In any event, at the very least, we can make a kernel that boots
PV for

7.4 at some point.

AWS does run on Xen, but the modifications they make to Xen are not
known to me nor which version of Xen they use. They may also run
the

domains as HVM, which seems to mitigate the issue here.

I just verified this kernel issue exists on a RHEL 7.3 system image
under the same conditions, when it's updated to RHEL 7.4 and kernel
3.10.0-693.2.1.el7.x86_64.

One other option is to run the DomU's as PVHVM:
https://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Xen_Linux_PV_on_HVM_drivers

That should be much better performance than HVM and may be a
workable

solution for people who don't want to modify their VM kernel.

Here is more info on PVHVM:
https://wiki.xen.org/wiki/PV_on_HVM

Also heard from someone to try this Config file change to the base
kernel and rebuild:

CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_BASE=n

This suggestion was mirrored in the RH bugzilla as well, it worked,
but
the same issue does not exist in newer kernels which have the option
on.
I've posted updated findings in the CentOS bug, which includes a
patch

that I found which seems to fix the issue:

https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=13763#c30014

With many thanks to hughesjr and toracat, I was able to find a patch
that seems to resolve this issue and get it into CentOS Plus
3.10.0-693.2.1. I've asked Red Hat to apply it to some future kernel
update, but that is only a dream for now.

In the meantime, if anyone who has been experiencing the issue with PV
domains can try out the CentOS Plus kernel here and provide feedback,
I'd appreciate it!

https://buildlogs.centos.org/c7-plus/kernel-plus/20170907163005/3.10.0-693.2.1.el7.centos.plus.x86_64/

Loaded 3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.centos.plus.x86_64 successfully on two
CentOS 7.4 PV domUs which failed previously on
kernel-3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64, the 2 hypervisors tested are:
1. CentOS 6.9, kernel 4.9.13-22.el6.x86_64, Xen 4.6.3-8.el6
2. CentOS 7.3, kernel 4.9.31-27.el7.x86_64, Xen 4.9.31-27.el7.x86_64

Should read:
1. CentOS 6.9, kernel 4.9.13-22.el6.x86_64, Xen 4.6.3-8.el6
2. CentOS 7.3, kernel 4.9.31-27.el7.x86_64, Xen 4.6.3-15.el7
