I do run devilspie on several CentOS 6 (and 7) boxes w/o any issue. I didn't think devilspie and wmctrl provide the same features, in the meaning that devilspie automates what wmctrl does, but maybe I was wrong about wmctrl, isn't it a "simple" command-line to to perform actions (get/set) w/ no automation unless you script it?
