[CentOS] dumb shared library question

2018-06-25 Thread Alice Wonder

Binary compiled on a system with ggc 5.5.0 w/ libstdc++.so.6.0.21

Because the major version is libstdc++.so.6 there shouldn't be any
problems running it on CentOS 7 with libstdc++.so.6.0.19, right?

I think the simplest solution would be to add this (which I haven't
tried):

http://zfsonlinux.org/
https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/wiki/RHEL-and-CentOS

to the Available Repositories for CentOS wiki page:

https://wiki.centos.org/fr/AdditionalResources/Repositories/

unless someone with some authority says that you can't do this.

[CentOS] ZFS on Linux repository

2018-06-25 Thread Gionatan Danti

Hi list,
we all know why ZFS is not included in RHEL/CentOS distributions: its
CDDL license is/seems not compatible with GPL license.

I'm not a layer, and I do not have any strong opinion on the matter.
However, as a sysadmin, I found ZFS to be extremely useful, especially
considering BTRFS sad state. I would *really* love to have ZFS on Linux
more intergrated with current CentOS.

From what I know (and I can go wrong, obviously), while the incompatible
licenses prevent CentOS from shipping it, nothing should prevent to have
a package for enabling *its repository*, better yet the kmod-enabled
one. I was thiking to something as a ZFS SIG, where we can simply issue
"yum install zfs-sig" and have the correct kmod-enabled repository
enabled.

I searched the list but I did not found anything regarding native ZFS.
Any feedback on the matter is welcomed. Thanks.

[CentOS] Dolphin fails to refresh files (cont'd)

2018-06-25 Thread Nicolas Kovacs
Hi,

Some time ago I reported a problem with Dolphin on bugs.centos.org. When
extracting an archive, the new files don't appear, and I have to press
F5 to refresh the current directory display.

I just found out a specificity of this bug. This only seem to happen on
those installations where I run the 4.4.x kernel (kernel-lt package from
elrepo-kernel repository).

Any idea how I could solve that problem ?

Cheers,

Niki

If you're in an AD environment, you can probably do nicely with mount.cifs:

sec=krb5,multiuser

That way you don't have to deal with usernames/passwords at all.

When you say "[not] facing the Internet", do those machines actually have
access to any other machines that ARE facing the internet? If not, then
you have to think "what possible route could an email take from the machine
to the email server for microlinux.fr?"

If they do have access to an internet-connected machine, then you could
set up postfix on the source machines to relay all emails via a suitable
SMTP mail relay. You do this by setting the "relayhost" option in the
config file /etc/postfix/main.cf. There are plenty of examples available
via Google.

You also need to think "What happens if an email from nestor.microlinux.lan
bounces for some reason? Where would the bounce go? If the sender address
is indeed in the .lan domain, the bounce would be undeliverable, so you
might want to investigate sender address masquerading.

Cheers

[CentOS] Postfix, system notifications and local servers

2018-06-25 Thread Nicolas Kovacs
Hi,

I have CentOS 7 running on half a dozen public servers. For some stuff
like automatic updates using yum-cron, I have Postfix installed with a
relatively basic configuration. This allows me to send important
notifications to my mail address i...@microlinux.fr. When there's a
batch of updates, I get one mail per machine, so I can check quickly if
everything went OK without having to connect to the server.

Now I'd also like to use this setup on machines that aren't in a
datacenter and facing the Internet. For example, servers that have
"dummy" hostnames like nestor.microlinux.lan or sauvegarde.scholae.lan.
Is there a way I can setup Postfix so this machine can send an e-mail to
i...@microlinux.fr, even if 'hostname --fqdn' returns a "dummy" hostname?

Cheers,

Niki
