Or just hit ESC during boot, and the pretty blue bar disappears and you get 
back the normal display of booting stuff.

Or in fact, as someone just pointed out in another thread, make sure you have 
652MB of RAM, and then the graphical installer _will_
be used, even under VMware Server 1.0.

  Someone posted that you can use VNC to install CentOS 6.
 
 and this has WHAT to do with low ram installs?

It means you get to do a graphical install, which you otherwise can't if you 
don't have enough RAM i.e. less than 652MB.

What caught me out (_doesn't_ sounds like it did you though), was that the 
CentOS 6 x86_64 installer chose to do a text-based
install, through lack of support for the graphics card, I guess (this is inside 
VMware Server 1.0!).  The text-based install does
not give you a choice of the kind of stuff to install, you just seem to get 
'minimal'.

I had much better luck after reading through the install guide (here:
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Installation_Guide/index.html
 ).  Booted off the iso, hit ESC
and then at the boot prompt: linux vnc.  I could then use a VNC client to do 
the nice graphical install.

I'm running C 5 x86_64 (currently 5.5) on mine.  Given it the full 8GB of ECC 
RAM.  I've put the drive it came with (the 160GB) into the optical drive bay, 
so it now shows as hdb.  I've got 4 x 1.5TB in the main slots, showing as 
sda-sdd.  They are hot swap under C 5, with the kernel happily doing whatever 
it does when a drive is plugged/unplugged.  I've got them as a 3 disk ZFS 
RAID-Z array, with the fourth as a spare, under zfs-fuse.  The write perf isn't 
great, but most access is over Samba and my wireless / distinctly under par 
gigabit network, so it serves me well.  And we love snapshots and all those 
other lovely ZFS features, so that outweighs anything else.  Also running 
Squeezebox server and an old version of VMware Server, with a couple of VMs 
(not under ZFS - that would be too slow).

Looking forward to C 6!  Glad to hear that SL 6 works OK.

I know some here are using CentOS on HP's ProLiant Microserver, so if anyone's

Hi.

As others have mentioned, a simple cat or use of  into xargs will simplify 
things.  The max-args switch _is_ the one you are
looking for:

--max-args=max-args, -n max-args

Spceifically:

cat gem.list.1 | xargs --max-args=1 sudo gem install

will do what you want, I think - please test it first.  You could add 
--interactive to xargs to help with this, or even just:

cat gem.list.1 | xargs --max-args=1 echo sudo gem install

which will just dump the commands that would be run (using echo).
