Re: [CentOS] Proxmox Backup Server equivalent for the RHEL/CentOS world ?

2021-04-14 Thread Blaž Bogataj

Hello

As I said a couple of weeks ago in response to Niki I have been using ProxMox
almost from the beginning ;).
No "enterprise" version. And backup is one of the reasons for that. NFS on NAS
as a backup target is really nice, even one time quicker than backup to local
storage (NAS with 10gb FC).

Also fiddling with RHV. But there is no "free" backup solution. I am trying
with Bacchus but no way to schedule backup. Single backup OK, schedule backup
no go.
So now use vProtect, for 5 years not a lot of $.

But I hope to find some instructions on how to build Prox and use it as
software defined storage. I must learn how to build this, especially about a
separated management network, without I think I can't build this to get HA. And
them migrate from RHV.

All the best

Re: [CentOS] Bare metal vs. virtualization: Proxmox + Ceph + CentOS?

2021-03-15 Thread Blaž Bogataj
Hello

I'm using ProxMox as virtualization, from verson 2.x. For around 20
servers (most of them are Centos machines) for different services (Zimbra,
Apache, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, EDB, ..) and also for MS servers (AD,
Exchange, fileserver, MSSql Express, .). They all are running on 5-6 HW
servers, different brands and all of them are pretty old.

As backup use Synology NAS and nfs with 10gb fc to FC switch. So speed for
backup really is not a problem.

I slowly moving sata disks to ssd, in same hardware and this is really big
advantage in speed. In time of changing disks move virtual machines to
other hypervisors.

HW Raid5 is really nice with ssd. In 3 years of changing to ssd disks only
one fail, but system running and change of disk without downtime ...

If I want to test, move, . backup and restore is not an issue. For this
year plan is to put one NAS to other location for disaster .

ProxMox and software defined storage on 4-5 machines I think for us is the
best solution. In point of maintaining there is no problem with upgrading
from one release to other - now is version 6.x. Only issue is probably my
knowledge how to put this together.

All the best

[CentOS] Centos 8 and logwatch

2020-11-13 Thread Blaž Bogataj
Hello
I am trying to get logwatch working on CentOS 8. System is fully updated.
Usually install minimal version and then add only necessary with yum.

On CentOS 7: install logwatch and get daily logwatch report on mail.

On CentOS 8: install logwatch but no way to get mail.

Am I doing something wrong? Or miss something?

Thanks in advance

Dear Fellows:

I'm under a proxy server (squid) and I need to update my centos but every
time that I run yum -y update tells me that I can no find a file that
exists. The problems is that this machine that I'm trying to update has no
graphic shell, so I need to make all by console.

[CentOS] MySql server on Centos 5

2009-02-16 Thread Blaž Bogataj
I have a question about Mysql.
I use mysql 5.0.68 on Centos 4 from Centos plus repository.

The old hardware steers me to Centos 5, however there is mysql 5.0.45. Some
program solutions which we are using on the old server (production for 500
users) do not work properly on new one (some querys producing reports).

Is there a source where I can find version for Centos 5 server equal to the
Mysql version which I run on the old server. I'd like to use some kind of
repository.

Looking forward for sugesstions.
