Re: [CentOS] CentOS Stream from bottom works, what is this?

2020-12-09 Thread Laack, Andrea P
The companies that pay for RHEL licenses for production and use CentOS for test
will be left with a large problem. They will either need to purchase double
the number of RHEL licenses and switch to RHEL for testing or go to another
distribution. RHEL + 1 will not work for testing application compatibility
with patches.

No company will want to pay double the amount they are currently paying for
RHEL licenses. This is not even addressing the cost and time it will take to
switch over all the test servers.

This will cost Red Hat credibility with major companies that they might never
recover from. This will cost Red Hat major business.

I will be recommending that my company change to Oracle Linux 8, instead of
upgrading to RHEL 8. We will get the same model we are currently using, Paid
support for production and free for test servers.

CentOS Stream is built from the currently released RHEL Source Code + 0.1

So if RHEL 8.3 is released .. Stream is the Source Code (built) that will
become 8.4 in a few months.

Many CentOS users are also RedHat customers. Those RedHat customers may
currently be rethinking their RedHat investment given this change of events.
We currently run Oracle Linux on a number of servers and have been very pleased

I've always feared a greater betrayal by Oracle than CentOS, but that clearly
isn't the case now.

I agree this is shocking news.  If we don't want to be beta testers and want to

there a license-free RHEL server option that is the recommended path from using

There are ways to get the metadata to do that, but it's still not officially

would/should pay for RHEL to get that kind of feature.

The fix for this vulnerability is complex and the fix will have different
results on different machines. The volunteers that support CentOS do the very
best they can to test patches, but they can't possibly test for everything.
If people have problems with the way patches are tested, maybe they should step
up to the plate and become part of the solution.

We should be offering our thanks to those who donate their time and energy to
supporting the CentOS project.

Me too. Luckily it happened on a test machine.

Sorry but seems that those packages were not tested before pushing them in the
update repo. Would be great to know what happened to the mainstream chains and
how a package like grub reached the update repo when it has serious problem
(genuine curiosity but not to blame them).

In my case, the restore procedure reported by RH in case of reboot does not
work and reports that the packages are already at the lowest version and that
the downgrade is not possibile. I don't know why.

If you can find the RPMS, you could rebuild for I686.

Hi all,

I am looking for a i686 package (32 bit) for mysql-connector-odbc. However, I
could locate only the x86-64 version on the repositories. Not much of a DB
person but trying to connect to a 64bit MySQL server on remote host.

Any suggestions where I can locate the i686 package? Is there a mariadb package
that I can use?

Thanks.

Seriously.  The CentOS developers rebuild RHEL, and RHEL 8 isn't available.  We
don't know when it will be available.  CentOS 8 certainly won't be available
until it is.

We can either set selinux to permissive (not suggested) or open a port.
Writing custom ports in selinux is not my specialty.

Sorry, that was a bit abrupt - yes, it sort of looks like a web server.
Does selinux interpret it as such?

P.

Hallo,
the firewall is disabled.
I tried several variations in the config-file.
0.0.0.0
192.168.242.4

Only 127.0.0.1 is working buth only withz local access.
