So last night what i did was yum remove sendmail logwatch then i reinstalled them and was gettting the error logwatch cannot execute sendmail -t turns out that in the /usr/share/--- logwatch.conf its says mailer = " sendmail -t" but that kicks in the error so in etc/logwatch/logwatch.conf if you add mailer = "/usr/sbin/sendmail -t" then the error goes away and logwatch reports start flowing back to my inbox like normal so that fixed my error and all is well now. Talking with people last night they said it was weird probably that a symlink was pointing to where it should be. Weird thing was i did a fresh install on my laptop while working on my main machine last night and was getting the exact same issue on a fresh install. but again applying this fix made it work fine. So the question is now is, is it a logwatch issue or a sendmail issue and if so where and how to fix it. I'm gonna write up a full bug report hopefully tonight and look upstream as well to see if there are any bugs filed with RH about this as well. [CentOS] offtopic repo's further discussion
Hello All I may have ruffled some feathers with a comment i made earlier about rpmforge. This was posted back on the ML. On Tue, 2010-01-12 at 14:47 -0600, lostson wrote: > For one stop using rpmforge this repo does nothing but trash a system. Discussion on that for us? So to oblige here is a further discussion on this subject. The reason I say this about rpmforge is because if you install this repo and then do a yum update watch what it will install a huge amount of packages, which 9 times out of 10 is gonna get messy.(which can happen with any repo) And yes I know all about yum-pritorities another plugin that you can install to control the various repo's that one would like to add. I have no problems with this either. Here is my issue the simple joy of playing a mp3 on rhythmbox or amarok should not be a test of one's admin skills or repo knowledge to get it to play. But it is, it is always "here read these 2 pages about yum-priorities plugin and repo's" I mean cmon really? There are 2 repo's CentOS Extras and CentOS Plus could this functionality be placed in here ? Where is the repo I read about months ago that was gonna be available for users to submit packages to ? These are all questions that should be getting asked. Another point to make is on the list forums and other places we are seeing a influx of new users, coming from all sorts of other distro's and to make this simple instance so damn hard and having to pull from outside sources or repo's seems silly to me. Should CentOS not provide a simple and easy solution for some of these things ? I mean standard music and movie playback should be an easy one to get. There seems to be some areas where this is taking place for instance I know there is kmods for alot of things, but I am looking at the plain ol home user who wants to listen to music email basic desktop stuff. And yes I know all about the patent encumbered bs that everyone spouts all the time and i today's times this is just a moot point now. Lets face it some of the other distro's are starting to show their true colors and are often too concerned with updates and the latest and greatest packages. Which is breaking more things than anything else. So people are coming to try out CentOS because of the stability and lets face it one of the best and helpful communities out there right now. And yes I know CentOS is mainly known for the RHEL compatibility and more server usage than anything else and that is the main goal, but why can the project not cater to the home user and tinkerer and developer as well ? All in all I should not of called out rpmforge on such a short straw the work they do is excellent and any 3rd party repo you use has the potential to hose a machine no doubt about it. All in all I'm not saying I want Cent to become one of the "other" distros here I'm just saying is there room for improvement ? To make things easier for the average user at home. We see it all the time on the lists and IRC and I'm thinking a more straightforward approach to the situation and keeping some things not all of course, but the simple ones inhouse and in Cent repo's instead of having to go outside the box just for simple things. Oh well all in all this is just my humble opinion and I'm sure I will get ravaged and picked apart at the seams for this but hey that's me so fire away!! -- LostSon http://lostsonsvault.org CentOS - Its not just for servers ya know... signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos

Hey all I was sitting here thinking about things and I came up with an idea that sounded, at least in my head, like a good one. There has been a boom in things like twitter and brainbird and social networking setups in general. I was wondering if the project or anyone would be interested in setting up a status.net server specifically for the CentOS project ? Why? you ask, well here are some of my reasons. 1) a central hub for all things centos, updates, wiki updates various messages from the dev team and whatever else 2) We could create groups much like in irc centos, social, devs, and many others 3) another outlet to get questions answered besides forums mailing lists or irc. 4) Quick collaboration between parties interested in CentOS Some other questions would be Where could we get this hosted ? What would we call it ? (centosuniverse - lame but hey) Would this be viable for the CentOS project ? I have noticed with brainbird you can go over the 140 character limit which may also be a good idea 140 can limit you in some ways. I also thought this would be a good way to create a community outlet. It is after all easier to post a quick 140 char message about what is going on than to compose a whole email or forum post. I've seen several websites and communities starting to use this as a outlet for their projects. So the ultimate question is (poor HHG2G reference there) - Would this work and would it be wise to persue this option ? Re: [CentOS] CentOS Project Infrastructure
ask - How may I help ? What do you need to get this done. Ask yourself what talents do you have that you can offer the project. There are many ways to do this and you can find them here http://wiki.centos.org/Contribute I for one thank the Dev's for their work I know it is time consuming and you guys are doing one hell of a job. I know some of the barking can be discouraging but please do not let a few impede your progress, on what is a great os for us to use, and to finish up may I offer my help in any way I can. I am no super guru by any means but I do have some skills and would be happy to help, and yes I know I have to earn it, so be it I love a challenge, thank you again for the excellent os that is CentOS -- LostSon http://lostsonsvault.org CentOS - It's not just for servers ya know... signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos

I use a 7600GS, 5700 and another older one here at my home and all work fine. The dual dvi's should work as long as you use the proprietary driver and twinview. If your not gonna use the proprietary driver it will use NV by default and that will work with one monitor I have never tried to run duals with the NV driver though. -- LostSon http://lostsonsvault.org centOS its not just for servers signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos

I always have used KDE with it though and KDE has settings for dual monitors as to what screen applications start on, also Kwin has an option to remember where a window was and will always put that application back where it was when you closed it. I mostly used my twins as one giant monitor versus two seperate screens but when i did it worked the same way. As far as the system tray issue i have never tried to have 2 separate system trays running but they have always showed the same icons no matter how i used the trays and panels. There is some very good documentation on nvidia's site about all the possible options you can use for twinview. Its a very long read but it comes in pdf form so at least you can have it locally when needed, mainly because its a long document and it takes time to go through it all. Other than that like i said I have used twins for years and have always enjoyed it. At one time i had two graphics cards and four monitors going at once, it was quite a fun setup, one monitor for irc, one monitor for web browsing, one for vim/emacs/ other various ide's and one for multimedia apps amarok kaffeine etc. I hope you enjoy multiple monitors as much as i do it can take alot of reading and tweaking but once you get a xorg.conf setup the way you want just make sure you back it up so you can keep it with you from machine to machine or from upgrades and such as well. -- LostSon http://lostsonsvault.org CentOS 5.3 KDE 3.5.4-22 pgpub3JLJnSXv.pgp Description: PGP signature ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos
