Is rhel6.6 supported at all AND tested?
I feel like being the first one who tries to install ceph on rhel6.6.

I hope there will be a fix very soon.

[ceph-users] xfsprogs missing in rhel6 repository

2014-12-12 Thread Lukac, Erik
Hi Guys,

xfsprogs is missing in http://ceph.com/rpm-giant/rhel6/x86_64/
Unfortunately it is not avaivable in standard-rhel.
Could you please add it as in firefly AND update repodata?

Thanks in advance

[ceph-users] strange errormessage while updating

2014-07-14 Thread Lukac, Erik
Hi Guys,

I am using ceph firefly on a three-node-cluster (all of them are
storage-servers AND monitors) with rhel 6.5. Right now I've updated ceph from
version from 0.80.2 to 0.80.3.
But during update something strange happened. After having updated node2 I
stopped ceph (osd and mon) on node 1. Then I ran ceph -s on node2 and
recieved this message:
root@node2:/# ceph -s
2014-07-14 23:11:46.922824 7f2090663700 0 -- :/1020989 10.65.201.241:6789/0
pipe(0x7f208c021410 sd=3 :0 s=1 pgs=0 cs=0 l=1 c=0x7f208c021680).fault
This also happened on node3 while node1 was updating:
root@node3:/#ceph -s
2014-07-14 23:11:32.542985 7f57121fc700 0 -- :/1023519 10.65.201.241:6789/0
pipe(0x7f5714021410 sd=3 :0 s=1 pgs=0 cs=0 l=1 c=0x7f5714021680).fault

After having updated node1 ceph -s worked fine.
This didnt happen while updating node2 and node3.

Maybe it is a bug... maybe not but I think it is worth to be reported.

If you have some more questions... tell me ;)

Re: [ceph-users] strange errormessage while updating

2014-07-14 Thread Lukac, Erik
Hi Greg,

thanks for your fast answer.

At the first sight I immediately killed (CTRL+C) that process but the second
try then was successful (at the second try I waited some seconds). I just was
irritated and thought I should report that... It would be more helpful if
message like connection timeout to monX is thrown than something that looks
like a segfault :S
But that's only blemishes ;)

Good night (I suppose on the opposite side it should be good morning ;)

This is just the output if it fails to connect to the first monitor it
tries (in this case, the one that isn't running). If you let it run
for a while it should time out after 15 seconds or something, pick a
different monitor, and succeed.

[ceph-users] misleading documentation concerning adding monitor

2014-07-14 Thread Lukac, Erik
Hi Guys,

me again.

In the documentation about adding/removing monitors (see here:
http://ceph.com/docs/master/rados/operations/add-or-rm-mons/ ) I've found
something which should be written somehow noob-safe.

I've used ceph version 0.80.2 on three rhel6.5 nodes.

At Adding monitors in Step 3 and 4 there are mentioned a file called
{tmp}/{filename} but in each cases two different files are meant:
ceph auth get mon. -o {tmp}/{filename} creates a file which contains my
keyring
sth like this (for noobs like me ):
[mon.]
key = IDONTSHOWMYKEY/TROLOLOLOL==
caps mon = allow *

and
ceph mon getmap -o {tmp}/{filename} creates a file with my monmap
the file looks like this (again for noobs like me):
monmaptool --print /tmp/teporaer/datei
  monmaptool: monmap file /tmp/teporaer/datei
  epoch 3
  fsid th1sis-n0tr3-all1-1val1d-k3ybutl00ksl1k31
last_changed 2014-07-14 22:33:29.306703
created 0.00
0: 100.56.389.121:6789/0 mon.node1
1: 100.56.389.123:6789/0 mon.node2 #the node I want to add
2: 100.56.389.124:6789/0 mon.node3

The last command overwrites the first one and so I recieved these messages in
mon-Logfile after starting mon-Service:
2014-07-14 21:43:41.315036 7f1cfeb05700 0 cephx: verify_reply couldn't decrypt
with error: error decoding block for decryption

2014-07-14 21:43:41.315155 7f1cfec06700 0 cephx: verify_reply couldn't decrypt

2014-07-14 21:43:41.315166 7f1cfec06700 0 -- 100.56.389.123:6789/0

c=0x28a0c60).failed verifying authorize reply

By the way: isnt it necessary to add the mon-Host I want to add to the cluster
to the monmap file? i.e. executing a command like this:
monmaptool --add HOSNTAME HOSTIP --fsid
th1sis-n0tr3-all1-1val1d-k3ybutl00ksl1k31 /tmp/teporaer/datei

Or is this just unneccessary because of the steps 5-7?

I've also tried ceph-deploy to a new host but I ran into this problem:
http://tracker.ceph.com/issues/5195 with a perl-rpgram running/hanging
ceph-create-keys -i node2

Having entered ceph mon add host ip didnt help either because of my
keyring.
Something else which I do not understand is the second note in
http://ceph.com/docs/master/rados/deployment/ceph-deploy-mon/#add-a-monitor
add a monitor. Can I really add two public networks to ceph.conf? Isnt it
easier to run step 7 from here (
http://ceph.com/docs/master/rados/operations/add-or-rm-mons/#adding-a-monitor-manual
 )?

Please dont feel harrassed by this post. See this as a review for the
documentation because I've already deployed my third monitor to my cluster.

Have a good night

Erik

P.S.: yes, the IPs above are not valid

Hi guys,

I do have the error:
rhel6/noarch repo's repodata has not been updated.

Here I do have a comparison from rhel6 versus el6:
http://pastebin.com/eiYj8ejD

only one package in rhel6/noarch versus 19 in el6/noarch

So could anybody update repodata (createrepo -update)?

Thanks in advance

Re: [ceph-users] ceph deploy on rhel6.5 installs ceph from el6 and fails

2014-05-23 Thread Lukac, Erik
Hi Simon,

thanks for your reply.
I already installed OS for my ceph-nodes via Kickstart (via network) from
Redhat Satellite and I dont want to do that again because some other config had
also been done.
xfsprogs is not part of the rhel base repository but of some extra package with
costs per node/CPU/whatever called Scalable File System. For some other nodes
I installed xfsprogs from centos-6-base repo but now I want to try a clean
rhel-based-only install and so I'll add ceph on my nodes from
/etc/yum.repos.d/ceph, install manually with yum and then do a ceph-deploy and
see what will happen ;)

I hadn't noticed that xfsprogs is included in the ceph repos, I'm using
the package from the RHEL 6.5 DVD, which is the same version, you'll
find it in the ScalableFileSystem repo on the Install DVD.

[ceph-users] ceph deploy on rhel6.5 installs ceph from el6 and fails

2014-05-22 Thread Lukac, Erik
Hi there,

it seems like ceph-deploy (in firefly but also in 0.72) on rhel6.5 wants to
install stuff from el6 repo, even when ceph admin-server is configured to use
rhel6

This is how /etc/yum.repos.d/ceph looks like on my admin-node:
[ceph@ceph-mir-dmz-admin ceph-mir-dmz]$ cat /etc/yum.repos.d/ceph.repo

gpgcheck=1

But: this fails because of the dependencies. xfsprogs is in rhel6 repo, but not
in el6 ☹

I haven’t looked yet into ceph-deploy pythoncode and also haven’t checked
wether installing manually would help (I'll do tomorrow) but maybe somebody has
any ideas howto use deph-deploy cleanly.

Thanks in advance

[ceph-users] simultaneous access to ceph via librados and s3 gw

2014-05-14 Thread Lukac, Erik
Hi there,

does anybody have an idea, how I can access my files created via librados
through the s3 gateway on my ceph-cluster?

Uploading via librados and then accessing via s3 seems to be impossible because
I only see a bunch of entries but not the files I uploaded.

The perfect solution would be, if I can access all my content through s3 gw,
librados and rbd.

Does anybody have a hint how I could do that? Or is it simply not possible?

Thanks in advance

[ceph-users] librados with java - who is using it?

2014-05-14 Thread Lukac, Erik
Hi there,

me again

is there anybody who uses librados in java? It seems like my company would be
the first one who thinks about using it and if I (as a part of OPS-Team) cant
convince our DEV-Team to use librados and improve performance they'll use
radosgw :(

I'd like to know best practices. Maybe anybody wants to share knowledge with me.

Thanks in advance

Erik

Sadly, this is not an option. The access semantics are just too
different, so each of those mechanisms is an independent pool of
storage. (Well, technically you can look at the s3 content via
librados, but there's not a good library for doing so.)
