We also invite potential speakers to submit an abstract on any of the
following topics:

* Ceph use-cases for scientific and research applications
* Ceph deployments in academic or non-profit organizations
* Applications of CephFS or Object Storage for HPC
* Operational highlights, tools, procedures, or other tips you want to
share with the community

The day will end with a cocktail reception.

Visitors may be interested in combining their visit to CERN with the
CERN Open Days being held September 14-15.

All event information for CFP, registration, accommodations can be

contributions. On April 12th we hope to have some projects set for
Outreachy so we can start selecting applicants. End of May will begin
the internships.

[ceph-users] Ceph Nautilus Release T-shirt Design

2019-01-16 Thread Mike Perez
Hey everyone,

We're getting close to the release of Ceph Nautilus, and I wanted to
start the discussion of our next shirt!

It looks like in the past we've used common works from Wikipedia pages.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nautilus

I thought it would be fun to see who in our community would like to
contribute to the next design. If we don't have any designers we can
also gather images and I can get something worked on that the
community can provide feedback on.

Lenz has provided this image that is currently being used for the 404
page of the dashboard:

https://github.com/ceph/ceph/blob/master/src/pybind/mgr/dashboard/frontend/src/assets/1280px-Nautilus_Octopus.jpg

Re: [ceph-users] dropping python 2 for nautilus... go/no-go

I spoke with Doug Hellmann who has been championing the goal inside of
OpenStack [1].

According to Doug all major services in OpenStack should be supporting
python 3.5 and 3.6. They have a goal in their current cycle, set for
2019-04-10 [2], to make python 3 the default in tests [3].

[ceph-users] Ceph is now declared stable in Rook v0.9

2018-12-10 Thread Mike Perez
Hey all,

Great news, the Rook team has declared Ceph to be stable in v0.9! Great work
from both communities in collaborating to make this possible.

https://blog.rook.io/rook-v0-9-new-storage-backends-in-town-ab952523ec53

I am planning on demos at the Rook booth by deploying object/block/fs
in Luminous and upgrading to Mimic while running a simple application.
More details and schedule hopefully later.

Great way to start KubeCon Seattle soon!

make sure things are announced on twitter/mailing list/etc once things are
