It's slightly above my price range ;-)

I read a paper about their hardware, it seems like they work with
 inktank (redhat) on this.

I have thought about this occasionally too. The workflow on the link looks
about right to me: it would perhaps be not-too-hard to try implementing the

That makes sense. There is a tentative implementation in shell at
https://github.com/rrerolle/ceph-nas

It's similar to what big enterprisey vendors try (and usually fail) to build,
so that people can have these magic bricks of storage that click together.
Building an Turnkey Integrated Enterprise Storage Appliance Platform is
really hard to do in the general case of multiple networks/strong
authentication/environment integration -- however in the simplified
single-subnet domestic NAS case I think it's perfectly feasible.

My selfish view of this is that I would be happy to buy three such NAS and plug
them in my basement. It probably is also appealing to other people who are
willing to have multiple machines running at home. There are not many of us,
probably not enough for any vendor to care. Maybe small enterprises would be a
more appealing market, with similar needs (scale, ease of use). If so maybe
we'll eventually be able to actually buy such Ceph bricks in a store instead of
assembling them manually.

Cheers

Hi Ceph,

Last week-end I discussed with a friend about a use case many of us thought
about already: it would be cool to have a simple way to assemble Ceph aware NAS
fresh from the store. I summarized the use case and interface we discussed here
:

It is far from polished but I hope it will trigger some discussions. The best
