RE: Thinking of a career change.. how does one get into Technical Recruiting..

Seems we all have similar experiences.

Would love to hear what a recruiter has to say!

 Recruiting..

 Hey all,

Since there's a large number of recruiters on this list, I've been
 wondering.

How does one break into technical recruiting?

I've got years of experience as a ColdFusion developer, but it appears
 that
the CF market in NC has dried up. So I'm entertaining the idea of
 moving
into recruiting, but have no idea where to start.

Thanks in advance for any replies

Thanks for the defence Levi. The reality is my tweet earlier about not being
happy do to company direction probably already tipped some folks off ;) It's
really my fault as I didn't note this was to cf-jobs-talk. cf-jobs reply is
different (to the emailer not the list). I just didn't notice it. As for a
public resume. It's not linked anywhere public, or at least it wasn't until
not. Besides I am ok with everyone looking at it, I'm proud of my
accomplishments anyone that wants to see it is fine by me. My life is an
open book, mostly ;)

I'd think more highly of someone who mentioned they were playing about

Dude... A few things...

1) You are replying to the list. Please reply to the person. If you
don't know how to do that, may I suggest you learn basic web before
doing any programing. :)

2) Spelling your as ur looks really bad to a potential employer. Get
a spell checker. it's free and it helps Allot.

3) Grammar can probably be forgiven since you are in a different
country. But if anyone wants to have you make content, it hurts your
chances.

Just trying to help.

RE: A Question For Recruitment Agents

2006-01-19 Thread Adrian Lynch
Companies I can understand. But agents?

If they can take my email address and send automated emails for other
potential jobs, why can't they do the same with rejections?

In my eyes it doesn't do their already tarnished reputations any good.

I read a piece in the BCS (British Computer Society) magazine, saying there
should be a code of conduct for agents, one that includes letting candidates
know, in a timely manor, about rejections. I tend to agree.

Having said all that, I meant to tell someone yesterday that I won't be able
to do some work for them because I don't have the time. Oppps!

A quick question for any recruitment agents on this
 list(or anyone else who
 knows).

Twice in the passed year I've started a dialog with a
 recruitment agent,
only for them to go quite and not tell me that I didn't
 get an interview.
How hard would it be for them to have sent a quick email
 saying, they
 weren't interested?

I understand that this might lead to another email asking
 why etc, but I'd
rather THAT second email was ignored and I knew I didn't
 get an interview so
you can move on and make other plans.

Surely it's just common courtesy, or am I missing
 something?

 Adrian

It's become unfortunately common for companies to not send rejection
letters, emails, etc... just what I've experienced and heard from others, so
you're not alone in thinking it's discourteous.

I know of one guy who wanted to charge the end client nearly 300% of the

I've had that happen too. I don't deal with them anymore if I can avoid it.
Agents now-a-days seem to think we (developers, DBAs, whatever it is they're
looking for) are not people. I've had one go quiet for months. then email me
again not remembering our previous contact. I had another ask me the same
questions he asked in an earlier conversation from THAT DAY!!

The industry of head hunting/recruiting has gone downhill a lot.

Hello all, I'm self employeed in the UK. Like most people here, a trip to
America is always on my mind.

What do you think the prospects would be for someone coming over to the US
to work as a CFer on a contract basis? I'm by no means under worked at the
moment, but I like the idea of combining a holiday with work.

Does anyone have any experience of upping roots for a foreign land? How did
it work out?

I haven't looked at the legal side of things, just looking for some
thoughts.

Thanks.

 a co-worker
was talked to for using a UDF and some inner joins on a

helped him with. The reason was that they did not
 understand the
syntax used so that was wrong and it needs to be made
 inefficient.

I've seen that before... annoys the hell out of me when a manager does
that... the message essentially is that people should, instead of
being expected to learn, intentionally use methods which are
inefficient to avoid learning so that no one else will ever need to
learn anything to understand their work... garbage... it's a great way
to completely eliminate the possibility of ever producing anything
genuinely innovative.
