In the last couple of month I have been building applications that have
caused me to have to dig into almost every area of CF. The most recent
however is the Cold Fusion security model. I think I have some
recommendations as to how to use it in an application effectively. Last
month I talked about Verity collections and I have some code example on
 the
matter of writing to and reading from the registry.
I think the only subject I have not really approached is clustering and
regular expression in CF. I would love to hear someone talk on those
  subjects. Anybody?

RE: [KCFusion] meeting

2001-01-09 Thread Greenhagen, Robin

I used to get burned by assignments in CFIF all the time

CFIF meeting="tonight" and location="same as Nov"

Should be

CFIF meeting eq "tonight" and location eq "same as Nov"
or
CFIF meeting is "tonight" and location is "same as Nov"

In the last couple of month I have been building applications that have
caused me to have to dig into almost every area of CF. The most recent
however is the Cold Fusion security model. I think I have some
recommendations as to how to use it in an application effectively. Last
month I talked about Verity collections and I have some code example on
 the
matter of writing to and reading from the registry.
I think the only subject I have not really approached is clustering and
regular expression in CF. I would love to hear someone talk on those
  subjects. Anybody?

RE: [KCFusion] meeting

2001-01-09 Thread JamieTieman

I'm convinced now that some of you kids take life way to seriously. I will
tell you up front that I have been to a total of one (1) CF user group
meeting and probably do not have the right to say anything about what is
said and done there. [end of disclaimer]
But, I'm old and if I'm wasting Listserve space, get over it. I believe we
need something that brings together the beginner with the professional. I
believe we need a focus for the group that makes the agenda for the next
meeting virtually automatic. I believe the group needs a project (that
belongs to the KCFusion Group). It should be done from design to
implementation... you get my point.

[KCFusion] Tonights meeting

2001-01-09 Thread Bryan LaPlante

Ok,
I had a little mapping problem earlier but I think it is fixed now.
The subject of tonight's discussion. I would like to hear your thoughts
about remote administration. If any of you work from home or employ people
from home, what are your concerns about security, productivity and so on.
Here is a test drive application I am working on to promote remote
administration.

The read and write functions have been disabled but the idea should be
clear. If someone would let me use there laptop I will log into the real
application and show the admin functions. If you encounter any errors send
me a mail off list, or on list if you think it is of use to others.

[KCFusion] KCFusion project

2001-01-09 Thread Keith Purtell

That would be good for the group. It would help us be a bit more focused,
and probably be convenient for those of use who can only participate part of
the time. More on this please?

I believe the group needs a project (that
belongs to the KCFusion Group). It should be done from design to
 implementation... you get my point.

My vote for an application would be a killer groupware-type system for the
kcfusion.org site itself... we could then share it with other cfugs. You
know the type: calendar, polling, filesharing, Allaire news, jobs,
discussion forum, chatroom. We could call it CFUG-Portal or something.

The big impediment to this (from my perspective at least) is that most of us
already have jobs that keep us busy, and finding time to work on an app for
the fun of it is tough. Perhaps as incentive we could offer the open-source
code to whomever chipped-in and helped.

I'd vote to spec it to strict Fusebox methodology, so we could keep it
modular and manage the inevitable multi-developer spaghettification. And we
could design it fairly generic so it would be suitable for most any
company's intranet solution.

just a thought...

How about something we can all use? Like a project management
intra/extranet where customers can track project and task status, as well as
discuss tasks with the developers in a discussion forum style with automatic
e-mail cc'ing

I have some [working] starter code along these lines that I can donate, so
long as the end result will be GPL'ed.

I have some begining specifications that I worked on a number of months ago
with ideas for the project management. It focused more on the billing and
hour tracking aspects however. I also spoke with someone in another city
who has a similar project that he built. He might be willing to share in
some of the work and original coding.

[KCFusion] Auto Complete in Forms

2001-01-09 Thread Bryan LaPlante

Answer to a question ask in the meeting tonight.

Here is the whole can of worms including the url.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/forms/autocomplete_ovr.asp

Here is a quick view of specifically what you wanted to know.
FORM AUTOCOMPLETE = "off"
:
/FORM

AutoComplete in HTML Forms

HTML forms are a key component to exchanging information between a user and
the server. They are common in most visual programming languages, and are
used in a variety of implementations on the Web. For example, forms allow
users to perform tasks such as searching a Web site, providing feedback, or
placing an order.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and later includes an integrated feature
called AutoComplete, which helps users quickly enter information into form
fields. The AutoComplete innovation in HTML forms safely stores information
entered into INPUT_text and INPUT_password fields. When a user submits a
form, the name, value, and domain of the form component are encrypted for
safekeeping. Storing the information helps users to complete single-line
text fields. The next time that user visits a Web page and begins typing in
a text field with the same name, the AUTOCOMPLETE attribute prompts an
AutoComplete box to appear, providing the user with a list of previously
used data.

An AutoComplete box is the primary interface for presenting data to the
user. Until an entry in the AutoComplete box is selected, the data remains
on the user's computer and is never accessible to a Web site.

u Advantages of AutoComplete in HTML Forms
u Implementing AutoComplete
u AutoComplete Security

Advantages of AutoComplete in HTML Forms

AutoComplete in HTML forms provides the following advantages:

u Information is stored on the user's computer.
u User experience is simplified by helping the user fill out forms.
u User information remains secure, and while users can see their private
information on a Web site, a Web site cannot see the list of personal
information until one of the stored values is selected and the field is
filled in.

AutoComplete is an easy feature to incorporate into Web sites, and it
provides a nonintrusive advantage for Web authors and users. For instance,
when the user begins typing in an INPUT field, the AutoComplete box presents
a list of suggestions. The list of suggestions is saved in an encrypted
store on the user's computer and is not accessible to Web sites. Because the
user interface is integrated with the browser, it is streamlined with the
Web page and transparent to the user. Individual Web sites do not need to
make any changes to their content to use AutoComplete.

AutoComplete encrypts data for the AutoComplete box in a primary data store
based on the NAME attribute of the INPUT element. The information is shared
among sites that include INPUT elements with the same NAME attribute. Web
authors do not have to change the NAME attribute of the field to select what
data is displayed by AutoComplete. Instead, the can use the VCARD_NAME
attribute, which sets or retrieves the vCard value used by AutoComplete.
vCard is a standards-based way to refer to common personal information.

The AutoComplete box appears discretely so as not to obstruct the view of
the form. When the box is open, users can select information from the
AutoComplete store. For example, a text field for a user's first name
produces a list of previously submitted names.

The information is provided from previously submitted field values. It is
specified through the vCard schema using the VCARD_NAME attribute, and this
allows form fields to be completed without ever typing in a character. The
vCard schema is created from the values specified in the Profile Assistant.
The vCard schema is implemented when a Web site specifies one of the
possible values that correspond to information in the Profile Assistant. The
Profile Assistant can be accessed from Internet Explorer by choosing
Internet Options on the Tools menu, selecting the Content tab, and then
clicking the My Profile button in the Personal Information section.

The AutoComplete box appears when the following circumstances occur:

u When the first character is entered.
u When the INPUT element contains fewer than two characters.
u When the INPUT element has focus and the user presses the down arrow.
u When the INPUT element has focus and is clicked.

If the VCARD_NAME attribute is present, the AutoComplete box includes any
information from the specified vCard item. Users can change the information
listed in the AutoComplete box for text fields with the VCARD_NAME
attribute.

Information for the AutoComplete box is provided by the following:

u The data store, primarily. The data store draws from previously completed
INPUT fields. The contents of the AutoComplete box are retrieved from the
values corresponding to the field name.
u The vCard schema. This schema is created from the values specified in the
Profile Assistant.
u The Common Name list. This list is generated from commonly used
