No .. 2 dashes = HTML comment .. 3 dashes = CFML comment. As long as you
don't mix and match the 2, you should be OK in that respect.

Working with textareas

2001-05-05 Thread Erika Foster

I'd like to format the string given in a text area to output hyperlinks and
images without my users having to know HTML. Is there an easy way to
'autolink' anything that starts with www or http? Similarly I'd like to
change anything that begins with http and ends with either .jpg or .gif to
so the image shows up in the output.

Anyone care to give me a start :-)?? Thanks.

Re: CF Studio and UltraDev Merging!

UD is still harsh on your code (yese even with code rewriting off) it still
dupicates code sometimes when you copy and paste, and its a bitch getting my
web guys to be careful and not screw up the code, its the best i've seen at
reading CF code but its still has a little more to go but CF studio is
defiantly what i use more with maybe integrating the design tap to OPEN UD,
i use Studio more then UD so i would like to see that =)

WHat is the syntax error? I would guess that one of your fields is not a
TEXT field - maybe Price ? If any of those fields are numeric it will get
messed up - or if your Price field is a money type and you are putting in a

2001-05-05 Thread Jason

Ive been using http://www.e-zonemedia.com/fuseads/ Fuseads w/source code and
it has performed quite well. I use a central add server as well.

William,

I've also thought about using CFHTTP to pull ads from a dedicated ad server,
but I'd think there would be serious performance problems. First, you're
forced to lock CFHTTP until you've output the variable cfhttp.filecontent.
Secondly, each page that CF returns doesn't get passed on to the web server
until it's been completely rendered by CF. So if you have a lot of CF pages
waiting on that single threaded CFHTTP that's pulling banners, it could
become an enormous bottleneck. More so if you've got banner ads on every
page of a busy site or family of sites.

BTW, we're also using CentralAd. What a piece of unsupported garbage. If
you're doing remote ad calls (ala doubleclick) the clickthroughs often end
up going to the wrong place, or else the server is incapable of figuring it
out at all and redirects to the 'default' ad's URL. It's a really problem
when users are going through proxies and the like. I suspect as many as
10-20% of clickthroughs are being misdirected. When it gets busy, we also
have a problem with their CGI's hanging on the ad server and having to be
manually killed off to free up memory and CPU cycles.

Yes, if the hosting provider chooses to do so. CF Advanced Security allows
for the creation of "server sandboxes" to isolate one developer from
another. Unfortunately, this can be a bit annoying to set up and use in
practice, I think.

RE: IIS Script Mapping Limit?

Well, I don't know for sure. I do know, though, that by default when you map
a file extension to an ISAPI extension, that ISAPI extension will be loaded
in memory for the server's lifespan after the first request that uses the
extension. So, you wouldn't want any more individual ISAPI extensions loaded
than necessary. However, if you have a bunch of file extensions mapped to
the same ISAPI extension, then it shouldn't matter.

Re: Credit Card DB Encryption Methodology

2001-05-05 Thread Admin

Another option would be to use an asymmetric encryption method alongside the
process you described before. For this you use a public key stored on the
server, but to decrypt the credit card number the operator needs to type in
a private key. As this key is not stored on the server there is no security
risk. You would then of course have to store the numbers twice, one
encrypted with the user password, and one encrypted with the public/private
key pair.
