I might've, but I'd have used more obscure names (with the exception
of Megatron)... and/or from the movie... Galvatron, Unicron, Cup,
Springer, Rumble, Frenzy ... I would definately have named one
Devastator! :P Granted, if I had a server named Starscream I'd have to
try and get any system alerts about failures on that server to play
the sound clip of "Oh my foot!"

Bind Expressions in repeated CFForm pages

2005-06-28 Thread Chris Velevitch
In CFMX 7 using flash forms,I can't seem to work out how to set the
label of each page to be an expression of 2 columns concatenated
together.

It works with a simple expression "{q_thequery.currentItem.col3}" but
not with anything more complicated.

Has anyone managed to get this working? If so, how did you do it?

Re: CFCHART - No Chart :-(

2005-06-28 Thread Matt Robertson
Probably. I'm not specifically familiar with it so I wanted to play
around as little as possible, although I really liked the idea of
essentially taking my server down even less. This was a brainless
solution I hoped, and for once it worked out that way. Interesting
thing is that connectorlist.bat showed the one site I had config'd --
the one that was not working -- to be config'd properly (I don't map
jrunscripts normally). Probably a bad mapping I think. Haven't gone
in and looked yet.

Anyway, it works now so I can move on to the next thing on my to-do list.

Shopping carts & hosting

2005-06-28 Thread Dirk Sieber
My apologies in advance - I know this has been answered before, but of course,
I didn't need the information then...

Anyway, I'm looking for two things:

1) A shopping cart written in CF - This would be for a fairly low-traffic site,
at least at this point. I know I could write one, but at this point, I don't
think it's worth re-inventing the wheel - I'm sure there's something out there
that'd work. Desired features:

-easy to update by people who aren't terribly computer knowledgeable

-simple to feature items, put items or classes of them on sale, etc.

-easy to integrate into an existing site.

-on-line credit card payment acceptance would be a big plus, with validation
against some on-line processor.

-Free or low cost would be a plus.

2) A good place to host #1. :-)

Any advice, pointers, etc would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Dirk

Re: CFUnited Presentations

2005-06-28 Thread Marlon Moyer
Tis a shame. I've been watching some Microsoft sponsered .Net
presentations and I was commenting to my coworkers how inconvenient
the system was since you loaded up Live Meeting to view the video and
then you needed to call in to get the audio or you could open an audio
stream with Real Player or Media Player. Of course, the audio stream
was a few seconds off of the video. Breeze really shines when it
comes to live meetings and I thought CFUnited would be a great way to
show off the tech.

RE: OT sql with like as variable

2005-06-28 Thread Matthew Walker
Even if they did work, you would get false matches: e.g. 34 would match
a search for 3. In the second case you could write perhaps
',' + listofids + ',' LIKE '%,' + id + ',%'
but it ain't pretty.

Hey, I thought I had this down but I'm having a bit of a problem

Consider a table like so.
id, listofids
"33","33,44,55,66"
"rr","rr,gg,cc,dd"
"xx","zz,ee,rr"

I'm trying to get a list of all the records where the value of the
first is somewhere in the second.

I'm thinking
SELECT
id,
listofids,
FROM
table
WHERE
CHARINDEX(id ,listofids) <> 0

Or perhaps

SELECT
id,
listofids
FROM
gv_locations
WHERE
',' + listofids + ',' LIKE '%' + id + '%'

But neither returns any records.

Any ideas?

Thanks. Andre

However it just doesnt seem to work.

I wonder if the var char fieldlength has anything to do with it. . .

This would be the one I would use except, you need commas in your like

where ',' + listofids + ',' LIKE '%,' + id + ',%'

the column names are horrid... assuming they're real column names...
and the data structure is undesirable... But with or without the
commas, I don't know why this query would produce zero records if the
id is found in the listofids column -- I can't see any reason why it

Even with CF7, cfcatch objects still frequently don't function as
expected... The best answer I've been able to come up with is this:

function getError(err) {
var err2 = structnew();
structappend(err2,err,true);
if (structkeyexists(err,"rootCause")) {
err2.rootCause = getError(err.rootCause);
} return err2;
}

And then dump or otherwise use the result of getError() as you
normally would the cfcatch object... I had a problem recently with
cfcatch where produced
the error "the required argument x was not provided" but changing it
to argumentcollection="#getError(cfcatch)#" produced the expected
behavior.

No guarantees this will resolve your issue, but I figured it might be
germane (or maybe Janet). :)

Re: Syncing Data between Websites

2005-06-28 Thread Matt Robertson
I sort of do this with a live server and an intranet one hiding behind
a firewall that is capable of reaching out to the db server on the
web.

The server behind the firewall is running CF and has its own mySQL
server that holds the data I want to synch up to the web. The local
CF server reaches out and makes a jdbc connection to the live mysql
server. Each record on the live system is compared to each record on
the 'local' one -- where the comparison is made by comparing a digest
(hash() ) of the record's contents, which is stored in a field in the
live data. If the digests match nothing happens, and if they don't
only then does a record update take place. Using the hash like this
saves an enormous amount of processing time and bandwidth.

This is all written in CF so db platform is irrelevant. However if
you can use native synching tools your life will be a lot simpler I'd
think. There's probably a way to do it in mySQL but this routine has
been running well for years so I haven't messed with it.

When doing this its a good idea to only allow the connection to take
place from a known IP. If the data is in any way critical/private you
need to make the db connection secure.

dumping cfcatch - UndefinedElementException

2005-06-28 Thread Russ
We have a global error handler that writes the errors to a log file. For
some of the entries everything is good, and it dumps all the variables
properly (the full stack trace, including the line numbers of where the
error occurred.). However for some of the elements all I'm getting is the
error below. I'm just dumping #cfcatch#. Why is it different in this case
and how do I get the template and line numbers?

Yep, you're right... I'm planning to put it up there, just haven't got
to it yet. I want to republish the entire site on the latest version
of the framework. My big issue is the forum... I made the mistake of
building the forum prior to adding the i18n features to the framework
so now I have this thing sort of hanging out on the site and I'm not
sure how much of it will work with the latest version of the Members
onTap plugin (the latest version of which is also i18n). So I need to
find the time to sit down and build a new copy of the public site and
install the forum into it and see if it will work or if I can make it
work until I can update the forum.

I've actually been rather afraid it was going to end up being this way
since I started working on the i18n features, but I thought they were
important enough that they really needed to be included regardless.
The i18n features themselves took a long time and the MoT plugin was
no small part of that since naming conventions for people are such a
complicated subject (the good news is the plugin can now simplify that
quite a bit). I also want to add the ability to associate an
(arbitrary) region with a timezone in MoT before I officially take it
out of beta.

cfm classes

2005-06-28 Thread dave
ok sorry if there are a few of these going through, it's been 2 hours since i
sent the first one in that came back rejected and I went to HoF and it's been
quite a long time, so I will try again

Talking with a .net guy about cfm & cfc's and methods, classes and what not.
ok here is the original statement, now how would you guys best write this out
to a .net person to show what cfm can do?

Let's try something here - a little experiment.

Let's say we are making a baseball game website. We want to have a player
object somewhere in our code that will contain stats about this player. We'll
assume only field players and not pitchers for this test.

We want to have things like:
the players name (first, middle, last & suffix)
how he bats (left, right, switch hitter - left/right throwing)
 how he throws (left/right)
 his positions played
 hits
 at bats
 his batting average
 doubles
 triples
 homeruns
 walks
 strikeouts
 slugging percentage
 steal attemps
 stolen bases

Now in CF - what would that player class/object look like in code? We're not
worrying about HOW that data gets into the object, just what the class
structure would look like in ColdFusion - if you can even do something like
this in ColdFusion...this may be where you have to leave CF behind and embrace
Java...I dunno but I suspect we'll find out shortly. Any CF guys wanna take a
stab at doing this?

Reading little blurb on CNN about how elder Bush and Clinton have become
good friends

Makes me kind of sad, actually. I'd take either one of them to the current

alliance, kick frickin ass, don't invade or occupy) with the domestic
policies and general like-ability of Clinton...that would rock.

think people get a good "feel" for a framework from browsing things

The HotFix fixes the [unknown type] error if you've applied the Updater to v6.1.

[empty string] sounds like there's nothing in the cfcatch scope - it's a

A 404. I wound up saving the derived file to .html and trying to
debug it that way. Nothing worked.

I solved the problem. There's a big thread on this over at the MM
forums and it seems the cause of the problem can stem from a variety
of sources, with a variety of fixes. The most extreme being the
following: using the included-in-CF batch files to

1)remove all of the IIS connectors to all web sites (i.e. kill the
server's ability to serve CF pages). Not something to do lightly.

2) globally re-apply the IIS connectors to all web sites.

Once this was completed, everything worked swimmingly. However the
..bat files aren't perfect. They start the services at the end of the
process but they don't stop them at the beginning, so while I was
savvy enough to stop IIS and CF before running the disconnector, I
didn't notice that at the end of the process it restarted the
services, which caused a failure when I ran the reconnector. That
gave me a few anxious (i.e. terrifying) moments until I spotted the
running services, stopped them and tried the reconnector again.

Thanks for the help, guys,

Shouldn't matter, CF uses JDBC 2 and JDBC 3 is downward
compatible. Looking through the files on my disk I think I am
using the JDBC 2EE version, but if one comes with our PostgreSQL
distribution I would use that.

I'm trying to read in an excel file and it does so, but the output is
crap. Well the data is in there, but there's alot of extraneous data
which shows up as unrecognizable characters. I thought that excel
was tab delimited with char returns at the end of each line. Maybe
I'm wrong for assuming this.
Is there a way to read this in where it just shows up in that way?
Should I export it differently first? Here's the code that I'm using.

CF7 - 16 character limit on SQL passwords

2005-06-28 Thread Chase Seibert
Hey guys,

Our main site runs CF5.5, but we will be upgrading to CF7 at some point this
summer. I have been writing some integration code with CF7 on my dev machine
for about a month, and had everything working great. Now I'm trying to push
that code to the production system. I love the fact that you can create a WAR
file and just copy it down. The only things I needed to change were the
passwords on the datasources...

Ouch. Looks like CF7 has a 16 character limit on SQL Server 2000 passwords. Not
sure if this effects all datasources or not. In any case, while our development
SQL Server is bellow that threshhold, our production server password is 18
characters. What are my options here. Does anyone have a work-around, either in
CF or in SQL?

Before you say "just change the password". That is not an option. We are
talking about 30 different SQL Servers, and the password is probablly hardcoded
in a bunch of places. Not our actual site code, but doubtless many little
utilities we have written over the years.

Ideas?

My point was that a press release is hardly from an unbiased source,
and therefore I have problems getting excited about what I read in
them. Hell, the company that I work for sends us emails ("We're in
the News!"), which i get excited about...until I pull up the link and
it's a press release.

Hey, it says we're wonderful! Of course it's going to say we're
wonderful. We wrote it!!! :)

Re: 5th Most Trafficked Site Switches to BlueDragon

2005-06-28 Thread Ken Ferguson
This is one of those things that make you want to place your head on the
ground and get a running start before kicking it across the room. I had
a client with a project VERY SIMILAR to myspace.com a few years ago who
wanted to offer me a substantial share of ownership in return for
building it and I didn't really feel like it was worth getting involved
in. My reluctance was, in part, due to the fact that it was to be a
paid-only site with no free access, but was also due to an overall
skepticism about whether the idea was viable in and of itself. Now I
look back and wonder why I didn't jump all over it and do all I could to
talk the guy into going the free access route. Oh well, who needs
boatloads of cash anyway, right???

RE: cfencrypt

2005-06-28 Thread Anthony Crawford
DES does not stand for Default Encryption Standard

DES = DATA ENCRYPTION STANDARD

A google search will bring up a lot of information on this. DES is now shadowed
by AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) Also give your CFMX7 documentation a
read, version 7 utilizes most industry standard encryption algorithms.

RE: 5th Most Trafficked Site Switches to BlueDragon

2005-06-28 Thread Burns, John D
Actually, the teens and stuff are going crazy. I have clients (bands
and such) that will set up a myspace account just because so many of
their fans live on myspace. That's on top of any kind of website we
build them. It's one of those crazy phenomenons like hotornot.com was
back in the day. Something so simple and for some reason the kids flock
to it.

Not at allwhat is it...never heard of it?

Most likely it's something pushed in the media in the USso us
Canucks don't see it unless we go hunting for it.

To be honest I rarely visit any of the top 5 that were listed. eBay is
the only one I actively use.and that's only because it's pretty much
impossible to find freestyle standup jetski parts where I live!!

Enlighten me Ray ;-)

Well Johnfirst you need a large target on a wallthe center being the
most traffic.then you give a monkey a pail full of big spit balls each
containing the name of a website. The monkey flings the spit balls (monkeys
are good at flinging stuff you know...so they are well suited for this task)
at the wallsand voila! traffic rankings

Perhaps someone has a slightly more scientific outlook on the processbut
I think I've come close in my assessment ;-)

2005-06-28 Thread Burns, John D
On this topic of ranking the major sites, does anyone have any idea how
Alexa and some of the other listings come up with these rankings? I
have a client of mine who went to alexa and did a search for his domain
and came back telling me that their site is in the X% of the websites in
the world or something like that. The numbers he was giving me were
nuts and didn't match our web server stats at all. Are they getting
these numbers from DNS hits or what? I know we're not giving them our
logs or numbers or anything so I'd be interested to know where they're
coming from. Any ideas?

2005-06-28 Thread Jim McAtee

RE: 5th Most Trafficked Site Switches to BlueDragon

2005-06-28 Thread Vince Bonfanti
(1) I'm over thirty, so I guess I qualify as an old fart (my kids think so).
(2) I'm married, but is 44 still young?
(3) Moved out of the cave a few years ago.

I guess that gets me 1-1/2 out of three, but I had never heard of MySpace
either until they contacted us a few months ago...
