Re: model-glue on shared servers

2006-05-22 Thread Mike Kear
The docs for Model-Glue and for Reactor lag behind the product somewhat.
It's a struggle to keep them in synch with the product because it's moving
ahead so fast.

I dont want to rehash the VERY LONG thread that went on the Reactor list a
while back, but I'll give you a brief synopsis

   - For running Reactor on a shared server ... DO NOT make a mapping
called Reactor despite what the docs say.
   - Put the Reactor core files in a folder of their own under the web
root. DO NOT put them any lower than that (i.e. dont put them in a
folder wwwroot/admin/reactor they MUST go in wwwroot/reactor. It is this
   folder that will contain reactorFactory.cfc)
   - Make a folder where you want Reactor to create it's
application-specific auto-generated files. This folder can be anywhere
   within your site, e.g. wwwroot/cfcs/reactordata
   - Create a ColdFusion mapping (or ask your sysadmin to do it) pointing
to this location. The docs suggest to call it /myApplicationData but you
can call it whatever you like.

If you are using Reactor in your WindowsXPPRo using IIS5.1, you can only
have one site. You can still have reactor running, but there is quite a
lot of complicatoin having several versions. So if you think you might have
several versions of Reactor on your system (e.g. different development
periods and therefore using a later rev of Reactor on one site) I strongly
suggest not using IIS. I changed to Apache for this reason and it made a
great many things easier.

So .. supposing you decided to stick with WindowsXPPro and IIS5.1 ... ok
here's what you have to do ...

   - You will no doubt have a folder c:\inetpub\wwwroot\MySIte1 which
contains the files for your site called MySIte1.
   - DO NOT put your reactor files in the folder
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\MySIte1\Reactor, which the Docs seem to say, but if you
   read carefully they dont.
   - Put your reactor files in the folder c:\inetpub\wwwroot\reactor\
i.e OUTSIDE the folders relating to your site MySite1. (this means
you can only have one copy of Reactor running at a time on your WInXP
machine - there are apparently ways to have different copies but I never
   figured that out)
   - Create the folder for the auto-generated application files INSIDE
your site MySite1, and to take the example above your folder will be
   c:\inetpub\wwwroot\MySite1\cfcs\reatordata
   - Create a ColdFusion mapping pointing to this folder. The docs
suggest to call it /myApplicationData but you can call it whatever you
   like.
   - When you upload your site to the shared server, you will need to
upload BOTH the files in MySite1 AND those in the c:\inetpub\wwwroot\reactor
tree. These will be INSIDE your site on the shared server.

This has been written from memory, so I hope it's correct in every
detail. But I can testify that it works on a shared server, but you have
to make sure you dont have a coldfusion mapping called Reactor anywhere, or
that's where the reactor will be run from, not from the files in your own
site.

Similar principle applies to ModelGlue.

The key is NOT to have a mapping called /Reactor despite what the docs
say. If the reactor folder is underneath the root of the site, it'll work,
believe me. I had it pounded into me hard enough on the Reactor list,
and I've verified it in my own experience. Hopefully the docs will be able
to catch up soon. There's a new version 2 of Model-Glue coming out soon,
and everyone (including me) would rather have the effort go into getting the
new version going properly than have it delayed waiting for documentation
for version 1.x updated. Same with reactor. Doug Hughes is up to his
armpits in things to do, and most of us would rather he spend his time
working on the product than the docs.

Of course the docs cant wait for ever, and eventually they'll get so far
behind the product they're worthless, but for now most of us working with
Model-Glue and Reactor have figured out the quirks and are leaning in favour
of development rather than documentation for now.

I hope this helps.

 Configuring Mappings
Once you've downloaded Reactor you will need to make a mapping named
/Reactor which points to the /Reactor directory you downloaded. The
reactorFactory component should be in the root of the /Reactor path.

Note: You do need to name this mapping /Reactor. Renaming this mapping
 will cause problems.

Can only feasably do 1 mapping name per server, per instructions but not
like I wont break any rules

I'm not going to promise any sort of useful details here because I know,
from past experience, that I'm not going to find the time to package
code up in a form in which it can be usefully shared (I owe apologies to
people here and elsewhere for promises unfulfilled in the past).

Anyhow, that said (and with the added proviso that due to tuit shortage
we're still working on RC2 here), I really don't see where the issues
lie with toolbar customisation: you can define as many toolbar sets as
you like in fckconfig.js and both the supplied custom tag and CFC allow
you to select the things per editor instance.

For image upload directories, you'll have to get your hands dirty to an
extent. I've pretty much rewritten the connectors from scratch here as
we've integrated fckeditor into our (mod_perl/PerlMagick based) image
auto resizing and processing code, so our code isn't likely to be of
much direct use to you, but the connectors are where you'll need to delve.

The standard (Application|Server).userFilesPath base isn't a lot of use.
We've recoded that to (1) pick up userFilesPath more flexibly - we check
Request, Session, Application, Client and Server in that order - and (2)
allow userFilesPath to be a hash, keyed on connector type ('File',
'Image' c) so different media can live in entirely different places.

If that doesn't give you enough flexibility, then you're likely into
more significant hacking - passing paths into the fckeditor js code and
back out to the connectors in the xmlhttprequest. It's not rocket
science, but you'll need to spend a bit of time sussing out how the
protocols work as standard first. We've not needed to do this, but
having crawled through the relevant code for other reasons, I don't
 think it would be difficult.

Possible in SQL?

2006-05-22 Thread Jeremy Bunton
Hello,

I have a table that looks something like this.

Com1 genderfname lname
001 M Matt Smith
001 M Bill Wright
005 FKara Brown
005 M Mike White

What I need to do is pull a record from each com1 group that meets my
where criteria. Say from above I want all the males. I would want the answer
to be

001 M Matt Smith
005 M Mike White

Or

001 M Bill Wright
005 M Mike White

I don't care which record I just want ONE per com1 id meeting the criteria.
I tried using distinct but that will not work as you have to list all the
field names out and then group but the none distinct ones which gives me all
the com1's meeting the where criteria. Any idea's?

Jeremy

You could do it with a subquery

select * from sometable a
WHERE a.gender = 'M'
AND lname = (SELECT max(lname) FROM foo WHERE com1=a.com1)

(of course, this assumes that lname is unique within a com1, which may
not be the case...you may need to add on a identity field to make sure
you only get one value for each com1)

RE: Possible in SQL?

2006-05-22 Thread Snake
I would have thought distinct would do what you want, are you sure you use
dit correctly.

Select distinct com1, gender, fname, lname
FROM mytable
WHERE gender = 'M'
Group by com1, gender, fname, lname

Subject: Possible in SQL?

Hello,

I have a table that looks something like this.

Com1 genderfname lname
001 M Matt Smith
001 M Bill Wright
005 FKara Brown
005 M Mike White

What I need to do is pull a record from each com1 group that meets my
where criteria. Say from above I want all the males. I would want the answer
to be

001 M Matt Smith
005 M Mike White

Or

001 M Bill Wright
005 M Mike White

I don't care which record I just want ONE per com1 id meeting the criteria.
I tried using distinct but that will not work as you have to list all the
field names out and then group but the none distinct ones which gives me all
the com1's meeting the where criteria. Any idea's?

You might post to regional lists, such as user group lists. In the DC area,
that would include the wammo-jobs list:

Unfortunately, the SSL portion of Google Analytics is slightly broken. They
have SSL set up so that you can fetch their files, but their certificate
doesn't match the URL used to fetch the files.

If I recall correctly, you can work around this by downloading their .js
file periodically and referencing it locally instead. I don't think it
changes that often.

Would it be possible to add something to all of the subjects,

feature that the Yahoo lists have, for instance if this were a Yahoo
group, would add [CF-Talk] to the beginning of the subject line. If
something like this could be done, it would help differentiate the
real email from spam. I accidentally marked as spam a couple of
emails from this list that had the above subject line as I have been
getting spam that had a similar format.
It would also help outlook users and others who have similar mail
rules in their email clients to redirect mail from this list into a
folder. It helps the mail to stick out from the sea of spam I get
every day. Thanks for taking a look at this and for considering my
idea!

RE: Possible in SQL?

2006-05-22 Thread Jeremy Bunton
I tried that. That will give you records with com1 showing up more than once
since the names ect are not distinct sql returns all the combinations. If
it would only give me one per change in com1 I would be done.

dit correctly.

Select distinct com1, gender, fname, lname

Hello,

I have a table that looks something like this.

Com1 genderfname lname
001 M Matt Smith
001 M Bill Wright
005 FKara Brown
005 M Mike White

What I need to do is pull a record from each com1 group that meets my
where criteria. Say from above I want all the males. I would want the answer
to be

001 M Matt Smith
005 M Mike White

Or

001 M Bill Wright
005 M Mike White

I don't care which record I just want ONE per com1 id meeting the criteria.
I tried using distinct but that will not work as you have to list all the
field names out and then group but the none distinct ones which gives me all
the com1's meeting the where criteria. Any idea's?

I'm using xe.com with good results. It's easy to use, just insert some
javascript. If you've got good JS skills you can tweak it to blend in with
your site. There's a free version that doesn't update the conversion rates
as often, or a paid version that updates the rates daily.

 Hi guys,

I am looking for a currency converter to include on a clients site. What
are people's favourites - something coldfusion orientated would be cool.

Basically I just need the visitor to be able to see the displayed price
(NZ Dollars) in their own currency - it does no need to alter any
variables. The transaction will still be in NZ Dollars.

You're not looking for distinct records, you want one random record from
within a set of records that otherwise match your search conditions. You can
fix this within your SQL using TOP 1 or whatever similar functionality
your database provides to get the first matching record within a set, or you
can fix this within your CFML by using the GROUP attribute of CFOUTPUT to
just show the first row within the set.

cfqueryparam BIND list limit

2006-05-22 Thread Billy Jamme
Hello All,

I'm having some DB issues and I'm wondering if I could get some help with it.

I'm running CFMX7, and MSSQL2k. On this specific task, I'm using the IN or NOT
IN clauses in sql to grab a set of records.

The problem occurs when I attempt to use cfqueryparam to fetch a 2100+ item
list of records.

Query 1:
cfquery name=selectList datasource=database
SELECT id
FROM tempTable
WHERE id IN (cfqueryparam value=#list# list=true
cfsqltype=cf_sql_integer)
/cfquery

And I receive the error: The DBMS returned an unspecified error.

However if I select the recordset using:

Query 2:
cfquery name=selectList datasource=database
SELECT id
FROM tempTable
WHERE id IN (#list#)
/cfquery

I receive no error. And receive the recordset.

To add to the pie, if I run this query:

Query 3:
cfquery name=selectList datasource=database
SELECT id,
FROM tempTable
WHERE id IN cfqueryparam value=#list# list=true
cfsqltype=cf_sql_integer
/cfquery

I still get the same error message: The DBMS returned an unspecified error.
Even though syntaxically the query is invalid.

To further troubleshoot I installed the jTBS 1.2 drivers and I ran all 3
queries again. The result this time around was:

Query 1: Prepared or callable statement has more than 2000 parameter markers.

Query 2: No errors.

Query 3: Prepared or callable statement has more than 2000 parameter markers.

What I'm guessing is that there is some form up of upper limit on the number of
BIND variables that each driver can handle. What leads me to this conclusion
is a couple of things. 1. The query will crash before the DB sees it. 2.
Non-BINDed variables execute fine. Also, if I use the default DataDirect SQL
drivers I can increase the number of BIND variables to 2097, where if I run the
jTDS drivers I'm limited to 2000.

Now the question. Is there a way to get around this limit? And if so, should
I try to?

Many thanks,

Jim

2006-05-22 Thread Everett, Al \(NIH/NIGMS\) [C]
I used to get around Oracle's 1000-item list limit by breaking up the
list into an array of lists then looping over the array and putting OR
between each iteration.

I expect that there is a much more elegant way to do it with a temporary
table.

Having problem with query and multiple tables.

I have a query calling on data in multiple tables. The database is MS
Access. Here is the query that I am using

SELECT p.name, p.product_id, p.content_id, p.creationdate, h.hits AS hits,
h.clickthroughs AS clicks, s.pagetitle, s.parent, c.pagetitle AS category
FROM Products p, Product_Hits h, ContentPages s, ContentPages c
Where
p.Status = 1 AND
p.product_id = h.product_id AND
p.content_id = s.content_id AND
s.parent = c.content_id
ORDER BY #sortorder#

All the data is returned fine accept that The HITS and CLICKS if there is
not HIT available for a particular product in the PRODUCT_HITS table, then
that product does not show up. I could break this into tow separate queries
except that I need to be able to dynamically change the sort order.

Basically I need to list all of the products even if there has been not HIT
record created for it. Is this possible using a single query?

Yes, you need to create an outer join instead of an inner join:

SELECT p.name,
p.product_id,
p.content_id,
p.creationdate,
h.hits AS hits,
h.clickthroughs AS clicks,
s.pagetitle,
s.parent,
c.pagetitle AS category
FROMProducts p,
INNER JOIN ContentPages s ON p.content_id = s.content_id
INNER JOIN ContentPages c ON s.parent = c.content_id
LEFT OUTER JOIN Product_Hits h ON p.product_id = h.product_id
ORDER BY#sortorder#

Of course, I wasn't able to test this query, but this should be in the
ballpark.

You would have to do a left join. Now this Is untested and it's been a long
time since I've written one of these but it's something like

 SELECT p.name, p.product_id, p.content_id,
 p.creationdate, h.hits AS hits,
 h.clickthroughs AS clicks, s.pagetitle, s.parent, c.pagetitle
 AS category
FROM Products p LEFT JOIN Product_Hits h ON p.product_id = h.product_id,
ContentPages s,
 ContentPages c
Where p.Status = 1 AND p.content_id = s.content_id AND s.parent =
 c.content_id ORDER BY #sortorder#

I think I've discovered a bug in CFMX

2006-05-22 Thread Jon Block
Reading this I know it might sound like an Apache bug, but I only get
the undesired behavior when I request certain types of CFM pages. Please
read and help me!.

SYMPTOM
-
Web browser seems to lose connection with the web server when making CFM
requests that take a long time (over 10 seconds) to process.

FIREFOX SIDE EFFECT

When the apparent connection with the web server breaks, Firefox prompts
me to download my index.cfm file.

INTERNET EXPLORER SIDE EFFECT
--
When the apparent connection with the web server breaks, Internet
Explorer makes a second request passing all of the same data a second
time.

OTHER CLUES
---
- This problem has surfaced in two unrelated parts (meaning there is no
shared code) of one web application and in another web application as
well.
- This problem has occurred in a simple 3 page site that I wrote.
- The problem seems to occur when CFMX is busy doing something like
looping over a file write or trying to cache a large query object.
- I could not reproduce this behavior when testing requests to a page
that did a 45 second pause.
- Although the web server seems to cut the connection with the browser,
the CFML requests appear to finish because I'm usually able to verify
that the thread finished what it was supposed to do on the server

SERVER SOFTWARE
---
Windows 2003 Server
Apache 1.3.33
CFMX 7,0,1,116466

WHAT I'VE ALREADY TRIED
---
- I check the Windows Event Log, Apache error and access log, and the
ColdFusion logs, and the Jrun logs. I'm not able to find any information
that seems to be related to this problem in any of these logs.
- I have a copy of SeeFusion that I've recently installed (after the
problem had started) and it's not able to reveal any clues
- I did an HTTP trace with HttpLook and I'm able to verify IE is
making a second POST at the server action page 15-20 seconds after I've
pushed the submit button. I'm talking about forms that have no special
javascript submit functionality.

HELP!
Thank you,
Jon

Re: MaxHeapSize + MaxPermSize

2006-05-22 Thread Dante Orlando
Thanks for all of your replies. First of all, I was really just looking for
the whys rather than any particular recommendation on what values to set
these params to. As far as the permanent generation being part of the heap,
I have been able to verify that the permenent generation (i.e. -XX:PermSize
and -XX:MaxPermSize) is *separate* from the object heap (i.e. -Xms and
-Xmx). See the following diagram from Sun:

http://java.sun.com/docs/hotspot/gc1.4.2/fig4.gif

which was taken from

http://java.sun.com/docs/hotspot/gc1.4.2/

also see Moazam Raja's explanation in the following blog entry:

http://www.unixville.com/~moazam/stories/2004/05/17/maxpermsizeAndHowItRelatesToTheOverallHeap.html

Rob:
I too have heard the explanation about the object heap needing to occupy a
contiguous block of memory, and that Windows is only able to meet that
requirement up to 2GB. Incidently, this is also why the /3GB flag is useless
on Windows at least as far as a jvm process is concerned. The thing is that
even with these restrictions I thought you could still get a jvm process
that was closer to 2GB, as opposed to the 1.6GB I'm seeing in my tests.
There is even a ColdFusion TechNote that suggests that the maximum value
should be more like 1.8GB (
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_19359). It turns
out that, if you dig a little deeper, the maximum contiguous memory block
you can get in Windows is actually a bit less than 2GB because of the way
some of the system DLLs are loaded, and the fact that Windows implements two
standard 64KB holes in the virtual address space, one at the bottom, and
another near the 2GB boundary.

I guess I'm beginning to answer my own question... Anybody else have any
additional thoughts on the matter?

thx,

-dante

Since it appears many here use Google Analytics, I have a
question. Does anyone use it over an SSL connection (during
the checkout process of a cart, for example)? I can't figure
out how to use it without throwing browser security warnings
(domain name does not match, etc.). Any way around this?

Unfortunately, the SSL portion of Google Analytics is slightly broken. They
have SSL set up so that you can fetch their files, but their certificate
doesn't match the URL used to fetch the files.

Thanks for all of your replies. First of all, I was really just looking for
the whys rather than any particular recommendation on what values to set

need to backup (probably to a separate drive cage) web servers and

cheaper the better. Thanks.

For years I have been backing up to hard drives on the data server (NT/SQLS7)
and then distributing those files (.bak)
to other servers using scheduled ftp or PCAnywhere sessions. I maintain a 4 day
rotation in different directories. I am
not as diligent with transaction files only maintaining 2 hour backups for a
day on an independant hard drive.

I roll off data onto DVD every 4 days.

Re: Server Backup Solutions

2006-05-22 Thread Jim McAtee
Rotation of backups can easily be done with Windows scripting or batch
files. I do this with my personal computers at home, backing up to an NAS
on my network. I use the Windows scheduler to run the backup batch file
each night. The batch file fires NTBackup, setting a destination backup
filename (incorporating the date). I do a weekly full backup, then
incremental daily backups.

Re: Server Backup Solutions

2006-05-22 Thread Ken Ferguson
At my last job, we started backing up to a rotating pair of USB 2.0
external HD's. It worked perfectly. We would switch them out on Monday
AM, with last weeks going off-site and the other one coming in. The
backups were done with Ghost and they were so handy! We'd have one new
image for every day and you could use them as a whole image or get into
them to pick and choose. We even had to use them once for a full restore
and a couple of times for partials or for the odd file or folder restore
and it was the coolest backup solution. Easy, reliable, fast... I really
liked it.

I use the standard NT Backup that comes with Windows.
I made sure my drive mappings were setup and then scheduled
Backups from that to a tape.

Now ideally would be awesome to have the auto-tape changer

Lets say we do with what we have or what we can scrounge for.

Curious if anyone has some suggestions for server backup software. I
need to backup (probably to a separate drive cage) web servers and
database servers in a Microsoft environment, and looking for any input
or experiences. I don't need much, but some requirements are to be able
to put backup process on a scheduler, compression, and obviously, the
 cheaper the better. Thanks.

Both http://www.acronis.com and http://www.ultrabac.com offer great

$699 to $999 per server is a great price to pay if you ever need to put your

 Multiple Instances and clustering.

If you're using multiple instances, each has its own JVM and memory space.
One of the reasons for using multiple instances is to bypass the JVM memory
limitations of a single instance.

Re: Announcing SeeFusion 3.3

Hi Jordan. From what we know of Server JX from our discussions with New
Atlanta, SeeFusion should work fine on that edition of BlueDragon. As far as we
know, it will NOT work on BlueDragon Server (which apparently is built on an
older version of ServletExec under the covers; one that doesn't support servlet
filters).

Hope that helps.

Best,
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Does SeeFusion support BlueDragon Server JX? We are looking for
something like this at the moment that supports BD JX.

Thanks!

Verity issues with MX 7

2006-05-22 Thread John Crawford
My company recently upgraded a server from 6.1 to 7.0.1. After doing the
upgrade we discovered that our verity functionality has broken. The indexing is
taking roughly 50 times longer to complete, and once it does, it does not seem
that the collections have been created (the search results return nothing). I
know that due to all the new content in verity that the process of indexing
takes longer which may be one possible cause. In addition, our system uses
multiple collections and that could be another cause. You can see an example
of no results here:

http://www.fortworthcpa.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=contentSearch.veritySearchnodeID=1

However, we have a client that uses our product on a third-party MX7 server,
and they have never experienced this issue. You can seen the correct results
here:
http://www.ovariancancer.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=contentSearch.veritySearchnodeID=1
So, we are not sure how to account for the situation that verity is working
with our system in one MX 7 environment but not in another. Any thoughts?
Also, as a temporary fix would it be possible to install the verity (version
2.6.1) from 6.1 to work in conjunction with 7.0.1? Thanks in advance,
John

ah sorry, my bad. i read your examples backwards.

SQLSTATE HY109 refers to an invalid cursor. Is this just a
straightforward select statement from a basic database table or is
there more going on behind the scenes (like a cursor)?

feature that the Yahoo lists have, for instance if this were a Yahoo

something like this could be done, it would help differentiate the
real email from spam. I accidentally marked as spam a couple of
emails from this list that had the above subject line as I have been
getting spam that had a similar format.
It would also help outlook users and others who have similar mail
rules in their email clients to redirect mail from this list into a

thoughts? Also, as a temporary fix would it be possible to install the
verity (version 2.6.1) from 6.1 to work in conjunction with 7.0.1?
 Thanks in advance, John
