Frameworks

2008-04-12 Thread Jenny Gavin-Wear
I've been reading up a bit on stuff like Eclipse, etc and I'm wondering
which way to go.

Flex looks interesting, but until Google fully implemented the indexing of
Flash it's a direction I'm nervous about going in.

I'm currently using Dreamweaver, CFMX 7, MS SQL 2000.

I'd like to take my coding to the next level, as well become more structured
in the way I code. I'd also like to be able to speed up the development
processes.

I would describe myself (wrongly or rightly, I'm just trying to make a
distinction) as a developer rather than as a programmer. Ie, I don't have
skills in Java/Javascript, etc.

So, which way to go?

TIA for any advice :-)

CF 8.0.1 Update and CFMENU

2008-04-12 Thread Bob Hendren
Has anyone experience trouble with CFMENU since the 8.0.1 Updater? I've
noticed a few of things:

1) The submenu indicator arrow appears beneath the display text in a
vertical menu in Internet Explorer.

2) There seems to be an improperly nested DIV that causes a thick top
border in vertical format.

3) The TYPE attribute for 'vertical' or 'horizontal' MUST be lowercase -
'Vertical/Horizontal' or 'VERTICAL/HORIZONTAL' cause it to render incorrect.

4) If I use an image in a top-level CFMENUITEM, it will also try to display
that same image as part of a group of child CFMENUITEMs, so that if there
are 5 child items, a single image of the parent menu item will display once
for all 5 items. (It's obviously not supposed to be there, because as you
mouseover the child menu items, the mouseover color appears over the image.)

5) An underline now appears for the active menu item. The behavior of
having a mouseover color for the active menu item is desired, and I supposed
I could live with the underline, but I'd rather not.

There could be others, but I was SO bummed! The update fixed a couple of
things that were a problem, but introduced other issues! I might be able to
solve a couple of these by tinkering with the YUI CSS, but a couple are
clearly beyond that.

One thing that DOES seem to be fixed is the odd behavior you got on a
horizontal menu, where it would be rendered vertically (mostly in IE) to
begin with, then resolve to horizontal - it was a weird and distracting
behavior, but seems OK now.

A Better Coldfusion Search Form.

2008-04-12 Thread Colin Eyo

- The words can be separated by commas, spaces, or the word and.
- Have it so you can search multiple word phrases by using quotes.

'%#form.criteria#%')
/cfif

/cfquery

pbResults:/b/p
cfoutput query=qSearch

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

CFID and CFTOKEN in the way

2008-04-12 Thread Les Mizzell
I have a client that's switching payment methods over to Barclay card
for their site.

I've gotten everything to work pretty well up to the last step. The page
*submitting* the payment must be an approved url that's set in the
Barclay Card store admin.

It's got to be exactly the same every single time. So, no URL variables
allowed. Period.

The problem? CFID and CFTOKEN. Once somebody logs in:

!--- If the username and password are correct ---
  cfif getLOGIN.recordCount eq 1
cfset SESSION.auth = structNew()
cfset SESSION.auth.isLoggedIn = Yes
cfset session.userID = #getLOGIN.cusnum#
cflocation url=enroll_app1.cfm addtoken=no
/cfif

CFID and CFTOKEN persist across the entire site, and I'm simply haven't
found a way to eliminate them so the site still works - but if they're
present on my submitting URL, it no longer matches the approved url,
and the payment submission fails.

Ideas?

Re: Frameworks

2008-04-12 Thread s. isaac dealey
Hi Jenny,

The onTap framework (in my sig) has a lot of syntactic sugar built in,
so you can build things like dhtml tabsets that are section 508
(accessibility) compliant without any real knowledge of javascript. Most
(all?) other dhtml tabsets you find out there, like the ones in Spry
would require some work to make them sec508 compliant (if it's even
possible).

Syntax for a tabset looks something like this:

cf_html
tap:tabset name=tab
tap:tab
tap:labelstuff/tap:label

stuff tab content
/tap:tab

tap:tab
tap:labelmore stuff/tap:label

more stuff content
/tap:tab
/tap:tabset
/cf_html

If I remember correctly I had also made it possible to load tab content
asynchronously. I know I recently added a tap:div element similar to
the cfdiv feature in ColdFusion 8 that lets you load content into the
div asynchronously using links in the div content.

Of course with any framework there's gonna be a learning curve. :)

You could look at Dojo, which is a WAI-ARIA compliant (Accessible Rich

Frameworks mean many different things in the CF world. We have CF

RE: Frameworks

2008-04-12 Thread Jenny Gavin-Wear
Thanks for replies ...

I had a look at Eclipse today .. didn't find it as friendly to use as
Dreamweaver, for sure.

I ruled out Flex as it produces Flash.

Maybe there is something that is more business-process oriented.

That's definitely true. If you are comfortable using DW you don't
necessarily need to change - while there's a lot of enthusiastic
Eclipse advocates on this list, there's lots of people using DW for
coding. And still some HomeSite+ users I'm sure.

I ruled out Flex as it produces Flash.

Flex is suited to particular applications or parts of applications -
it's not a replacement for HTML-based web sites by any means.

You said I'd like to take my coding to the next level, as well become
more structured in the way I code. To me, that sounds like you're
looking for a CF framework: Fusebox, Model-Glue, Mach-ii, ColdBox,
etc. Which one you choose will depend on a number of factors. Do you
use lots of CFCs currently? Are you interested in moving to an
object-oriented coding style? Do you work with a team of coders or by
yourself? etc etc.

http://cfframeworks.com/ might give you some pointers. But other than
that, everyone's going to tell you their framework is the best. I use
Fusebox, for example, so I think it's GREAT. But factors you might
want to consider include the size and activity level of the community
and the number of online resources available, especially tutorials etc
for getting started.

For the record (and because others will no doubt chime in), while
using a framework won't automatically make you write better code,
there's lots of benefits to them which is why there are so many of
them and they're so popular. So good luck!

Cheers,
K.

How to write this query?

2008-04-12 Thread Rick Faircloth
Hi, all...

I've got two tables:

1 - list of properties
2 - photos for those properties

There is more than one photo per property.

What I want to do is get each property and the first
photo for that property.

Here's what I've tried:

select distinct sa.street_number, sa.street_name, sa.city,
sa.public_remarks_01,
sa.public_remarks_02, sa.public_remarks_03,
   sa.list_price, sap.photo_filename
from smlc_acr sa, smlc_acr_photos sap
 where sa.mls_number = sap.photo_mls_number
   order by list_price

That doesn't work, because each row is distinct because of the new photo.

I tried joins, but couldn't get that to work.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Rick

weird issue in browser with cf8 and long execution times

2008-04-12 Thread Randy Johnson
Hello,

I am running CF8 Standard.

I am running a page that takes a few minutes to run. After a certain
amount of time a gray box will popup and ask me to save the index.cfm file
or open it. When I open it or save it the file is always blank.

When this happens it looks like the page is done executing in the browser
but if you look in the task manager you see that JRUN is still using the
CPU. I have also confirmed that the page is still running by doing a
refresh in Navicat which shows that more rows are being added to the
database table.

The page is reading an XML file, parsing it and then looping over to insert
data into the database.

Has anyone seen this before or know what I need to do to stop it from
happening?

Thanks!

Randy

Yea - but it's often a form submission without a cflocation.

I found a method suggested by Ben Forta I'm playing with...

Restricting page access if not from cf8 interface

2008-04-12 Thread Michael Brennan-White
I have a number of pages that get pulled into cflayoutareas from my main page.
The menu displays the addresses to these pages and I would like to keep someone
from accessing the pages directly by the URL.

What method(s) will make it possible to only allow access to
these pages by my interface. (BTW, the pages in question are all CFM pages. )

Thanks for your help now and in the past.

something like the following (note: mysql syntax):

SELECT sa.street_number, sa.street_name, sa.city, sa.public_remarks_01,
sa.public_remarks_02, sa.public_remarks_03, sa.list_price, SAP_SQ.photo_filename
FROM smlc_acr sa INNER JOIN (SELECT photo_filename, photo_mls_number FROM
smlc_acr_photos sap WHERE
photo_filename '' LIMIT 1) SAP_SQ ON sa.mls_number = SAP_SQ.photo_mls_number
ORDER BY sa.list_price
