 Particularly related to ColdFusion. I understand open source software
 is not free software. So, to get everything working one has to pay
 something if he/she does not have the time or expertise to dig
 everything... and that seems fair, but if someone is asking about
 thousand or thousands of dollars upfront, I don't think that's a
 productive way of moving forward... Also, you may hear something like
 this, this key person is on vacation and will be back in like two weeks
 or you need patience, in the business world, every day counts (you
 snooze you lose). This ranting is for the benefit of whose who are
 considering switch from Adobe ColdFusion to other options. I'm not
 suggesting not to make the switch but think twice or better talk to the
 key person of the product you intend to switch to and possibly strike a
 deal or at least obtain his/her support first otherwise your
 conversion/switch would be at the mercy of others.

Given the traffic on the mailing lists I would say Railo.

For what it is worth, one could replace OSS and Proprietary software

nearly identically.

getDirectoryFromPath Question

2009-07-20 Thread Hunsaker, Michael Scott

Hello -

I've noticed something strange when using the getDirectoryFromPath function and
wanted to see if anyone else has seen this. It's probably something I'm doing
incorrectly.  Here's what I'm doing:

In the application.cfc, I created an application variable to hold the physical
path of the web site files. Instead of manually entering the physical path
(G:\ Inetpub\wwwroot), I used the getDirectoryFromPath function like this:

#getdirectoryfrompath(expandpath('*.*'))#

That returns the same thing. However, when I use the function above as the
destination in the CFFILE function, it returns an error. The error says:

The value of the attribute destination, which is currently
G:\Inetpub\wwwroot\, is invalid.

For some reason it adds a comma at the end of the physical path but I can't
figure out why. Any ideas? I would appreciate any help.

Thanks!!

Mike

Yo Don!

A cool thing about open source is that you can pay random coder(s) to
do what you need. Doesn't have to be the creators-- tho they're
obviously going to be the best.

If you are running a business on the Railo software and need a rapid
and guaranteed response, a support contract is probably not a bad idea
at all.

Railo support sounds amazing. I've heard nothing but praise.

To me some service contract like delivery of a fix of 8 days is too long.
Probably I'll talk to the OSS's owner to negotiate a deal something later

You know what, I strongly believe, any OSS documentation at a reasonable price,
say, $200 or even a bit higher, would sell like hot cake, because everyone
using/developing it would need it. But this option does not seem to be there
already. And I don't think charging too much at initial/beta stage of a
product would help it much...

Also, I don't want to name names in case the note is misconstrued and that
would not do them a service.

 ahe, it's kind of chick/egg thing. There's a bit of contradition here.
 Current beta release (3.1.0.022)

 This version is recommended for production use.

 And the current stable release does not have any ajax support I think,
 which won't work with my app...

I think you misunderstood. Railo *server* is recommended for production use,
as opposed to the express version.
The current stable release is 3.0.3.000

RE: getDirectoryFromPath Question

2009-07-20 Thread Hunsaker, Michael Scott

Thanks for the help! Here's my CFFILE function:

cffile action  = upload
filefield   = form.embarkFile
destination = #application.physpath#data\
  nameconflict  = overwrite
accept  = text/plain
attributes  = Normal /

The #application.physpath# is declared as
#getdirectoryfrompath(expandpath('*.*'))# in the application.cfc.

The form.embarkFile is uploaded in the self-posting form. So between the
destination and fileField, the CFFILE should be okay... right?

Thanks for the help!! I really appreciate it!

What others said, the comma is part of the error message, not the value.

Can we see the full CFFILE?

You probably need a filename there, not a directory path.

Passing a query object to a CFC and then using that for a query of queries?

2009-07-20 Thread Pete Ruckelshaus

I'm stuck. Actually, I'm probably just being stupid.
I want to pass a query object into a CFC and then use query of queries to
manipulate that query object.

Here's the contents of my db.cfc file:

cfcomponent
cffunction name=getContacts returntype=query
cfquery name=getData datasource=adventureworks
 SELECT top 100 *
FROM person.contact
 /cfquery
cfreturn getdata
/cffunction
 cffunction name=sortDataFromQry returntype=query
cfargument name=dataIn type=query required=yes
 cfargument name=orderBy type=string required=yes
cfquery name=getData dbtype=query
 SELECT *
FROM #arguments.dataIn#
 ORDER BY #arguments.orderby#
/cfquery
 cfreturn getData
/cffunction
/cfcomponent

And here's the important stuff from my calling page:

cfinvoke component=db method=getContacts
returnvariable=getContacts/cfinvoke
cfinvoke component=db method=sortDataFromQry
returnvariable=getContacts1
cfinvokeargument name=dataIn value=#getContacts#
 cfinvokeargument name=orderby value=firstname
/cfinvoke

The problem is that the CFC is throwing a Complex object types cannot be
converted to simple values. error. How do I get the sortDataFromQry
function to see dataIn as a recordset?

Thanks

Pete

Hi Pete,
You don't need the hash signs around your table name in a QoQ:

 cffunction name=sortDataFromQry returntype=query
cfargument name=dataIn type=query required=yes
 cfargument name=orderBy type=string required=yes
cfquery name=getData dbtype=query

Try it without 'form.' in the filefield:

cffile action  = upload
filefield   = embarkFile
destination = #application.physpath#data\

attributes  = Normal /

Assuming that your path is coming out as G:\inetpub\wwwroot\data\ and not

destination attribute ends in data

so are you positive that is the line of code that's causing the error?

a) CSS

c) to affect which part of DOM (HTML element)

Not a surprise, really. The fileField tells CF to look for that variable

would try this: form[attributes.filefield]. form[form.filefield] would in

asynchronous form values

2009-07-20 Thread David Mineer

I have a form page. Several of the fields are cfselect dropdowns with bind
values that relate them to each other. I save the values in an object in
session scope.

This page by itself works perfect. You choose values, submit the form and
when the page comes back, the values you chose are preselected.

The problem is that I want the page as part of a tabbed interface. So the
main page contains several tabs, and the page in question pulls up when you
click on it's tab.

When the form is submitted from within the tab, the default values are not
selected. My research tells me that form values submitted asynchronously
are not saved like you would expect in a normal page submit.

How can I save and reference the chosen form values when the from is
asynchronous.

Re: Help on ColdExt

2009-07-20 Thread Arsalan Tariq Keen

h Don...
you see the problem is I have zero experience with Javascript and all
that's why I found ColdExt so appealing for AJAX based ColdFusion
applications :)

do you know who wrote ColdExt ... I mean if I could get his/her email id
maybe I could consult the very genius :)

Arsalan

 I may not be the best person to offer you advice on this. But it's been
 my experience to go directly with Ext itself. Some caveat though. In the
 Ext world, CSS is critical for many of its classes including Window.

 It's my understanding, in essence, Ext 2 would use the three parts of:
 a) CSS
 b) its js code/class and its methods for control etc.
 c) to affect which part of DOM (HTML element)

 Guys...
 Can any one guide me where I can get help on ColdExt
 Actually I want to put some text (not form control) inside my
 FormPanel ... like instructions about filling the form... but I m not
 able to find a way...
 can anyone guide me on this one?

 Regards,
 Arsalan

 I could be wrong, but I remember that not being the case a good while
 back.

 Both fileField and FORM.fileField would work in the filefield attribute.

 Am I mistaken?

 Not a surprise, really. The fileField tells CF to look for that
 variable
 name in the FORM scope, so that if it was a custom tag, for instance,
 CF
 would try this:  form[attributes.filefield].  form[form.filefield]
 would in
 invalid in that case ...
