Custom Tag, Caller Scope + Application.cfc
Hello all. Long no post. I'm currently working on a module to a an existing, sprawling site that has grown without much planning to a size that was never anticipated. One of the things I need to do to build my module is switch the existing application.cfm to an application.cfc so that I can use onRequestStart. No big deal But there is one issue that comes up through that. In application.cfm, they have query the DB for some data regarding site-wide advertising. Just standard cfquery stuff. Then on the pages, they use a custom tag to actually display the ads. Now, as soon as I move the queries into the onApplicationStart method in the application.cfc, the trouble starts. The custom tags throw an error. Variables available to it before through the caller scope is now not available anymore. The cheating way out is to just grab the queries, stick them into their own file and use cfinclude on the pages that advertise. Is there a way - without changing the custom tag - to include the queries in the application.cfc that will still let the custom tag have access to the variables? Thanks in advance. C8 + Vista Ultimate 64bit - Can't Install
Hi all, I give up. I need some help here. I'm trying to install the Developer Edition of CF 8 (64 bit edition) on my Vista Ultimate 64 bit laptop. Here the environment CF 8.01 Win 64 JVM 6.12 Dell XPS M1530, 6 GB RAM, Windows Ultimate 64-bit OS When I run the exe file (as Administrator), the InstallAnywhere does its thing, then CF 8 splash screen appears, I hit OK and it seems to extract the files. After about three quarters, I get an error message: Fatal Application Error This Applicatoin has Unexpectedly Quit Invocation of this Java Application has caused an Innvocation TargetException. This application will now exit. (LAX) I have repeatedly downloaded the installer, tried the 32-bit installer (same error), made sure I had the latest JVM and emptied (as well as possible) the Windows Temp folder. No success. What am I doing wrong? Re: C8 + Vista Ultimate 64bit - Can't Install
Typical. When you send out a help request, you get to solve the problem yourself. The issue was as follows: I deleted a default folder, when I set up the folder structure to my liking. Problem was, that this folder was coded into the Windows registry. I changed the path in the registry to an existing 'generic' folder and...tataaait works. This has been logged as a bug with Adobe, by the way. a. ~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:319785 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4
Dev Server - Built-in server to Apache server
Hi guys, I'm definitely more dev than server admin. ;) So be patient with me if this is stupid. I have CF8 installed on my dev machine - as a single server using the built-in server. Now I need to set up a dev environement that uses Apache 2. What are my options here? Do I need to reinstall CF8 using the Apache server instead of the built-in one, or is there an easy way to use the current installation but swtiching it to Apache? Thanks for your help. Strange Function Result Change
Hi all, I have a website with my travel stuff on it. This has been running for a while (5 years). Today I've realized that a few pictures don't display on the page anymore. http://www.aresthetics.ch/trav/galleryCont.cfm?cont=AS (the flags) The flags are grabbed from the database by a function. Nothing has changed to the code, the database or the images. Looking at the image, it looks like it pushes a %20 before the image name - obviously it can't find it that way. However, I don't see where that is coming from, it's certainly not in the DB. Here's the code: On the page: img src=images/flags/#functiongetflagname(country)# align=absmiddle alt=Flag of #country# The function: cffunction name=functiongetflagname returntype=string hint=country cfargument name=country type=string required=true cfquery name=countryinfo datasource=#APPLICATION.a_OCBC_Datasource# SELECT flagKl FROM countryinfo WHERE country = '#country#' /cfquery cfset flagname = countryinfo.flagKl cfreturn flagname /cffunction Not quite sure what I'm missing here. Any ideas? Any ideas WHY this suddenly happened? Hei Michael, I have implemented cfformprotect in several sites and it works a treat: easy to implement, customizable and filters spam like a treat. Besides the accessibilty issues with CAPTCHAs, I also find it a burden put on your user that is not necessary. It's not their fault that spammers abuse your form. They shouldn't be punished for it. RE: GotCFM.com - Need Opinion on Whether to Approve a Site
Shanti, shanti. No need to get heated over this subject. I find the rules in place (hate, racism, etc.) are absolutely sufficient. I mean, porn...sorry...'adult themed' sites are big business and there might very well be potential clients from that industry out there - who'd be glad to see that CF works for an Adult site. And isn't that the whole purpose of gotcfm.com? As for 'are there no kick-ass sites' out there. It's sometimes a bit difficult to explain this to clients - but a lot of stuff that a dynamic page does (whatever technology is used) you won't see just by like that. And vice-verse, eye-candy sites might not always be the best solution for a business (I recollect the 2advanced discussion here a few weeks ago). I believe, that potential clients, especially if they are of a fair size will be more impressed by names...and not by examples. So, it's important to get the big names onto the list My opinion. Debugging Server Lock-Up
Hi all, We are running the following system Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, SP1 ColdFusion 7.02 Enterprise Multiserver Edition, JRun 4 FarCry 3.01 MSSQL 6.01 Since we migrated from CF6 to CF7 server stability in general became much better. However, we recently had a few situations where the server would 'lock-up', i.e. the site would not respond anymore. When checking we realized that the machine was on a very high level of RAM usage. The only thing we can do is restarting the JRun instance for that particular site. I'm currently having a look at seefusion and fusion-reactor. The problem I see is, that eventually the tool won't help me, because if I can't access the site anymore, I won't be able to access seefusion/fusion-reactor either - how could I determine what's causing the problem then? Or is there a way around this with those tools? If not, how would you recommend a 'lock-up debugging'? Thanks for any hints and tips. RE: CF Developer Partnerships
I'm always developing my sites freelance projects on my own as well. Nevertheless, I have a good friend back home who also happens to be a good CF developer and I have sort of made him my 'replacement in case'. I have been on the road for nearly a year in 2005 - before I left I worked out all development work desired by my clients and finished them up. Then I introduced them to my friend and basically told them to contact him in case of emergencies or work that would need to be done immediately. Worked out fine. The clients got professional support and my friend made a bit of money on the side. Once I arrived in Oz, everything was handed back to me. I find that such a contingency plan is a must if you offer professional services as a freelancer (or as a one-man/woman company). Obviously it needs to be somebody who has the qualifications and experience, you need to be able to trust the person and your project documentation needs to be top-notch (it's kind of difficult to contact me in Kyrgyzstan. Heh.). But if you make sure of all these points, you should be fine. Maybe you want to get a freelancer in here and there on bigger projects so that in case of emergency (and we don't have to go as far as dying here) he/she could take over your work without having to read into the projects from scratch. I believe that this 'service' is included in the cash you get from your clients. As much as you expect your car manufacturer to be able to deliver spare parts to the car you bought last year. Adrian [EMAIL PROTECTED] 3/02/2007 9:51 pm A good read, Will. My wife has been after me to do all the things mentioned on the blog... except the dying part. :o) Putting all the info about accounts, password, etc., into a document would be tedious, but simple enough. The hard part would be the partnership with someone who could handle my sites (I host my own), FTP server, mail server, etc. I'll have to develop a plan, not only to cover everything in the event I die, but for current business prosperity. Like I said in an earlier post, I'm getting more interest from businesses to develop web apps for clients to use to run their businesses. But, the question always comes up... what if you die? What happens to our apps, since you're a one-person business? So... this whole question is affecting my current state of affairs... Re: Open Source ColdFusion CMS
I don't know how FarCry was a few years back - it's the first time I work with it. In my opinion it is a good tool. It might seem a bit overwhelming at first glance and sometimes it seems to be constructed in an overly complex way. But an experienced CF programmer will find his way around fairly quickly. The only real 'negative' we found/find is that the updates seem to be a bit, ahm, let's say undisciplined. We currently use FarCry 3.02 - and while there are still a few open issues that Deamon could work on...they already work on FarCry 4. I'd prefer to sort out 95% of the FC3 issues, before moving on to FC4. But generally it's easy to fix the most annoying problems yourself. Plus, we're a fairly large organisation and probably use FarCry in a way that pushes a CMS' usability to limits - any CMS'. If you only have one or two contributors working on a site, you'll be totally fine. But then, maybe you might want to look out for something even simpler in that case anyhow. Jon, I actually lodged a bug report on sourceforge. This is the reply I got: IE:s selection gets lost sometimes if you focus another iframe inside thesame document. The inline popup plugin has this issue but it's resolvedusing the following method: Use the var b = inst.selection.getBookmark();and inst.selection.moveToBookmark(b); functions before and after a insert. It will store away the current selection and then restore it. Consult theAPI docs for details.I'm currently trying to apply this - but all attempts have failed so far. ;)Adrian ~| Create robust enterprise, web RIAs. Re: FarCry and TinyMCE issue
Just to keep you in the loop. We were actually using TinyMCE 2.0.6. and I had a look at the 2.0.8 version of it. This version has been adapted to IE7 requirements (it's now sniffing for IE7 as well in the JS). However, it still loses the position when a link is inserted from the FarCry tree. and going back to it Adrian [EMAIL PROTECTED] 8/01/2007 3:14:12 pm Adrian, I'll see if I can take a look at it tomorrow a bit more. In the meantime,I dug through the javascript in the admin for a sec and there are two places, I would start to look; In /farcry_core/admin/includes/lib/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/ tiny_mce.jsthere is a whole lot of browser sniffing going on. If your clients are using IE7, you may be able to redefine this.isMSIE to get it to work since any unknown version is served the IE 5 stuff. The function insertHTML( html ) is delivered inline from / farcry_core/admin/edittabedit.cfm. It's the one that sends the commands to the TinyMCE js functions on inserting HTML. You may be able to dial down to the problem though the function calls in there. Regards, Jon On Jan 7, 2007, at 9:56 PM, Adrian Wagner wrote: Jon, FarCry 3.01, TinyMCE 2.0.8. Yep, that's what I was refering to. I was getting a bit confused about the cffile thing. I'll upload up to 6 files at a time and I know that cffile is only available for one file upload and will be over-written by the next one. That's one of the reasons why I want to get it into a cfc, this way my form processor can invoke the upload and will get the file info back in return. Thanks guys. Adrian [EMAIL PROTECTED] 18/12/2006 6:03 pm Mike, That only exists after you have used CFFILE to save the file to the server. CFIF statement in query
Hi all, Here's the deal. I need to order a query by a particular sequence that is not in the database, nor can it be implemented in the database (the data is imported daily from a third party which does not provide this sequence). So, the solution my co-worker came up with is to actually assign the sequence (value) into a virual (computed) column. All good. My problem now is to dynamically assign that sequence value to the computed column depending on the value of a physical column. What I tried (simplisticly, just for testing) is: cfquery datasource=computedColumnTest name=testquery SELECT ucDescription, ucTitle, cfif ucDescription contains Graduate Certificate 1 cfelse 2 /cfif AS seq FROM testtable ORDER BY ucDescription /cfquery The error message I get from this is Element UCDESCRIPTION is undefined in QUERY. Is there an easy way to get around this? Thanks for your help. Re: CFIF statement in query
No typo. We're using an SQL Server 8. [EMAIL PROTECTED] 4/10/2006 12:28 pm He wants it when the ucDescription contains that value and is not just equal to it or was that a typo in his CFIF? The case when then method may not work depending on what DB he is using and the version of it. Problem using XML DTD and XmlParse
I'm trying to use XmlParse to parse an XML document which has a DTD defined in the directory above the XML document. ie. defined at the top of the XML document !DOCTYPE Article SYSTEM ../hn-article.dtd When I try to use XmlParse on the document i get the following error: Relative URI ../hn-article.dtd; can not be resolved without a base URI. Does anyone have any idea how i can set a base URI? Making changes to the actual XML is not really an option. Any help would be appreciated. ~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:233104 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4 Donations Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
Re: Problem using XML DTD and XmlParse
Hi, No the XML isn't broken, the DTD file is exactly where the XML file says it is, in the directory above the file. The coldfusion XmlParse just doesn't seem to want to find it without having a Base URI. Altering the XML is really a last resort... so can a Base URI be set? Making changes to the actual XML is not really an option. Shame, because the actual XML is broken, isn't it, if the DTD is invalid ? You could do a string search/replace prior to xmlParse() to correct it, if you were really sick. -- Tom Chiverton Advanced ColdFusion Programmer ~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:233131 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4 Donations Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
