Re: Stolen server.

2007-07-07 Thread Jason Radosevich
The company i work for had that happen to us quite a few times..
(nurses had thier laptops stolen from them)

what we did was exactly what jonese said to do..

Contacted each person by mail.. signed them all up for free credit
monitoring for a year, gave them numbers to equifax, transunion
Experian.. also gave them information on how to safeguard their
information.

We then switched to a 3rd party vendor to install some pretty sweet
stuff on all of our laptops desktop pcs..

Even if the person re-spins the hard drive, or replaces the hard
drive.. we are still able to track where they are at by their IP
address..

They were still on windows2000 server. That would have been smart.
I will recommend it for the new system..
  Boy was this aggravating.

Since Vista is not a server OS, I would not recommend its use for this
purpose. If you want disk-based encryption, there are all sorts of proven
applications that will give you similar functionality. For example, I use
Truecrypt (http://www.truecrypt.org/), which is a free, open-source disk
encryption application. I don't use it to secure the entire contents of my
hard drive, though, so if my laptop was stolen and someone took the time to
determine my password (which is pretty easy to do in most cases if you have
physical control of the machine), they would be able to gain access to the
unencrypted stuff. I believe that Bitlocker encrypts the whole drive, but
haven't played with that at all.

That said, these things are of questionable utility on a server, which
requires access to disk volumes by various running processes with constant
logins, etc. The better approach is to take care of your physical security
problems. If your client can't secure their own servers, they should
outsource that to a hosting provider who can.

Has any one tried to install CF5 under Vista?

I know it sounds like an anachronism, but some of our clients are still
 under CF5,
so we have to keep CF5 running on our working station at least for testing.

One of us just acquired a new portable equipped with Vista.
When he installs CF5 on it, first it does not recognize the version of
 IIS coming with Vista.
Then in IIS, we try to defined the mapping on ISCF.DLL as usual, but
 IIS protests that
it cannot find the DLL or it is not recognized as an ISAPI dll.

 1. Resize image if width or height is GT 700, then I run ScaletoFit Method.

 2. Paste this image onto a background image.

 3. Paste a logo watermark

 4. Write image to disk.

I can see in my debug info that it is running those methods. But when
I write to disk, none of the above things show up.

Does anybody have any code to share. Maybe I can get some hints as to
 what I am missing here.

 Thanks.

That's usually the answer, but not very helpful if you need to do it
 on a server.

Since it's just plain text, it should be pretty easy to write a
parser, at least a basic one. There is a good book on RTF, it's
pretty much the only one out there, can't remember the name. The
first couple of chapters are available on the web, and would get you
through the basic parsing of an RTF.

Don't know of any utils off hand, but if you find one, holler- I
rather like RTF for some reason. :D

you probably could nest the tables, and style the nested table. The W3

all of them. That seems kind of kludgey. Am I missing something?
Is there an easier way to accomplish that?

the tr element doesn't accept a border property according to
 standards (according to
 http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/struct/tables.html#edef-TR). The
fact that IE allows it is an IE...feature :)

I normally add the borders to td's (which necessitate that
cellspacing be set to 0 on the table)

I wonder if it would be possible to make a DreamWeaver Lite? Or at
least a method that would allow you to run DW in a simple, code
editor only mode. Then if you want the designer features, you turn
on/enable those options in the program. Now that would be sweet.
Be able to enable and disable as much as you want/need or that your
 system can handle.
