RE: Dynamic GIGs/JPEGs
I believe I've seen on an NOAA site a JAVA application that allows for multiple images to be put in a type of "player" (with stop, forward, reverse, play buttons) without loss of image quality. If you're interested I'll try and find the URL so you can see it. -Original Message- From: Philip Arnold - ASP [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, August 15, 2000 5:00 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Dynamic GIGs/JPEGs > What are my options for the Subject? > > That is, displaying a set sequence > of GIFs/JPEGs? What exactly do you mean by "displaying a set sequence"? If you mean placing graphics on a page, then just holding the names in a database in a sorted order and just placing the HTML on the page If you mean switching the image from one to another while the user is watching, then you'd have to build some JavaScript - or put them all into one big animated GIF (with loss of quality on the JPEGs) If I've mis-understood, then please expand on what you mean... Can CF be run on a machine which is also running Service Pack 6 Alpha?
We're trying to move a web site to a designated box with our host (Navisite). However, we've been told that there are problems with installing CF on a machine using this SP. The person who said this didn't specify what the problems were...I'm having to rely on it second-hand. What problems are there, and are there ways around it? Thanks, gang. -- Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk@houseoffusion.com/ To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists&body=lists/cf_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.
RE: I need a host. Intermedia testimonials
Here's www.america.net . They've had CF service since 1998, I believe, but my wife and I are just now getting started with them on it for our personal business, so I can't give you an eyewitness account of how easy it is to work with them on this. -Original Message- From: Gavin Myers [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, August 08, 2000 10:53 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: I need a host. Intermedia testimonials 2 Months ago i would have said Interland... but they started to move crap around and our database hasn't been put back on our server YET... its been over a month now with no db, I'm pretty pissed at it, and maybe its just one of those things. Their price is ok, the site is ok, they have sql. -Original Message- From: Eric Dawson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, August 07, 2000 9:04 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: I need a host. I've been asked to evaluate Spectra and Enterprise (and have no experience with any such program)
I appreciate the help from anyone who can provide advice: My company just acquired another company whose web site dwarfs our own, but which we'll still be assimilating. Our site runs ASP connecting to SQL Server, while theirs is Cold Fusion connecting to Oracle. The combined site will be Cold Fusion (YES!) to SQL Server, and will be quite massive. My manager asked me to evaluate the content management tools Allaire Spectra and Enterprise, with which I have no experience. My questions: 1. What questions should I ask regarding our own systems (i.e. hardware, expectations) before we evaluate these two programs? 2. Is it possible that we might need only one without the other? 3. Where's the best place in terms of price to go shopping for these programs. Thanks. Kurt J. RE: Scalability stories, please? (Sorry - an addendum)
I meant to say "My manager is apparently considering CF in place of ASP to handle the combined job, but he needs to be convinced on some things, chiefly the scalability issue." Thanks -Original Message----- From: Wayne, Kurt [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, July 26, 2000 9:23 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: Scalability stories, please? I was told that after all the other company's content is absorbed we'll want to run ASP to connect to Oracle. However, my new manager asked me privately about scalability issues...all he's seen is the stuff on Allaire's web site. We'll eventually be running the site with dual machines (one a mirror) connecting remotely to the server which contains the Oracle stuff. We anticipate hundreds of thousands of hits daily on the combined site. My question to you all...how do you think CF will handle the connection to Oracle with the anticipated traffic. (My previous CF experience has been either on company intranets or small company web sites...this will be the highest volume of hits I've worked with. Thanks, Kurt J.
